About this listen

When she closed her eyes, she was back in that apartment again - shivering, shards of glass around her, her hands stained with blood...

Six years earlier, Trina Grissom disappeared, on the run for her life. Now living under an assumed identity - as Samantha Marsh - she still struggles with the dark secret she harbors and the fear she might one day be found. When she moves to the coastal town of Rarity Cove, South Carolina, to open a cafe, a handsome widower begins to chip away at the walls she's built to protect herself.

Mark St. Clair lost his wife two years ago in a tragic accident. Head of the grand St. Clair resort, he distracts himself from his lingering grief by running the family business and caring for his troubled young daughter...until a beautiful restaurateur sets up shop in town.

As Samantha and Mark begin a hesitant courtship, double perils emerge. Someone from Samantha's lurid past comes calling, threatening to expose her. And a powerful hurricane is forming in the Atlantic with the small beach town in its path. Trapped in the storm by the brutal man who wants vengeance on Samantha, she and Mark must fight for their lives.

I did not love the narration. I’m from the rural south. I have an accent. It’s one thing for the characters to have accents but another for, even when the characters are not speaking, every “ing” word to end in -in’.

I haven’t cried from a book ever but darn it I bawled. Emily is such a great support character.

I really wanted to listen to this book because the story sounding intriguing - but the narration just killed it for me and I didn't even get to chapter 3. I tried to push past it; however, the narrator decided to read very slowly - too slowly, and I did try and see if speeding it up would help but it just makes it worse. The male character sounds like an 80 year old man, not a man in his early 30's. The female character didn't "sound" as old, but again, sounded too aged. It's like the narrator focused so hard on the "accent" that everything else was lost. There were pauses where to me there shouldn't have been, and not long enough pauses between paragraphs so stuff ran together. So maybe I'll give this book a go in kindle format, but definitely not as an audible. In my opinion, it's not worth the credit/money...I'll be returning this title.

Ugh - the narration ruined it from word one

The southern accents were a real turn off and I didn't even make it through the book And I was not able to connect with any other characters
