About this listen

Callie Kingston's life as an Orange County housewife isn't as perfect as it seems. Her husband isn't the same man she fell in love with, and her home is no longer her safe haven. But she's determined to keep up appearances, especially when it comes to concealing the bruises her husband's temper leaves behind.

Until Cole Luciano moves into her friend's house across the street. He's abrasive and rude, but his steel-blue eyes tell a different story - one with dark secrets.

After suffering through an unspeakable tragedy, Cole settles into his sister's pool house until he can get back on his feet. He's convinced that he deserves to live with the guilt he harbors from his past, and wants nothing more than to be left alone. Yet he can't seem to stay away from his beautiful neighbor. He sees right through Callie's carefully orchestrated lies and is desperate to help her.

Callie discovers more underneath Cole's hard exterior. But when Callie finally finds the courage to create a new life for herself, Cole isn't sure if there's enough of his heart left to give in.

Can two broken souls heal each other, or are some just too damaged to be put back together?

Contains mature themes.

Entertaining Story- narration hard to get past

I liked the story and felt like I was in the moment with what Callie was going through. What I couldn’t get over was the choice of voice for Paul. It’s like the narrator was trying way to hard to make him sound like one of those funny, rich Beverly Hills-bougie types. It didn’t even sound like they were remotely the same age and I thought it was a joke for the first few minutes of the book with how comical-sounding he was, “oh mumsy and poopsie and dahhhhhling, I simply cannot comprehend!” So much cringe that it ruined the book for me whenever he would speak.

Deserving 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is a wonderful story about coming out of an abusive situation to a beautiful relationship full of hope and real love. Having the chance to become a mother and father building a family together. Great job Kristen Granada.

Loved the story

The story was good but the woman narrator does the worst male and child voices ever! it was very distracting at times.

Story was excellent…narration was not

Enjoyed the story and the male narration. The female narrator didn’t seem to match the character description and her male voice was cringeworthy!

Why isn’t everyone talking about this book?!

I don’t usually leave reviews but here I am, at 2:30 AM writing one. The dynamic between MMC and MFC is beautiful and realistic. The emotions were at my fingertips. Their struggles, their highs and lows, and their determiniation to be better were a breath of fresh air. This is definitely one of my favorite books now. Know your worth and always be true to yourself.

3 Stars

I wanted to love this, but it just never got to where I wanted it to be. It was emotional, but the scenes just did not bring the emotion I would want when dealing with the serious issues they were dealing with.

I also just never bought into the relationship. It may have been the female narrator when she was reading in the male voice. It just disconnected it for me for some reason.

Overall, it was good but only ok at the same time.

Triggers for loss of a child, domestic violence, rape, and mental health.

Great book!

This was a sweet, beautiful, story. I felt it took a little too long to discover Cole’s secret though…that part drug out too long for me. Otherwise, loved it. Alex Kydd 🔥 as usual. Female narrator was fine for female voices, but the male voices made me cringe 😬 Would have been better in duet, but then again, all audiobooks are better in duet style! Really loving this “new to me” author!

Beautiful

This is the first book by this author I’ve listened to. There’s so much feeling in this book. Everything Cole and Callie have to go through to be happy. They are so broken but together they start to heal not for each other but for themselves.
I got teary eyed towards the last few chapters. I loved how it ended and how Callie and Cole grow and change.
This is a must listen to.

Great book, narration issues

I’ve read this book a bunch of times before and really like it, even tho it’s a little cheesy. This is my first time listening. The leads were acceptable on their own, for the lead parts, but the female narrator especially for other characters? Was horrible. She does the worst clenched teeth shmaltzy yacht club voice for the husband, it made me cringe every time, and these weird growly voices for the kids??? The male narrator was not much better trying to do the female dialogue in his sections, but by the end I liked him, just compared to the female one he was a relief. I hope this will be re-recorded at some point, cause this audio just does not do it justice.
