About this listen

"Narrating her own work, Patrisse Khan-Cullors shares the salient moments of her life that led her to become a founder of Black Lives Matter...pain, frustration, and joy [emblazon] each word she utters." (AudioFile Magazine)

This program is read by Patrisse Khan-Cullors and includes a bonus conversation.

The emotional and powerful story of one of the co-founders of Black Lives Matter and how the movement was born. When They Call You a Terrorist by Patrisse Khan-Cullors and asha bandele is the essential audiobook for every conscientious American.

From one of the co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement comes a poetic audiobook memoir and reflection on humanity. Necessary and timely, Patrisse Cullors’ story asks us to remember that protest in the interest of the most vulnerable comes from love.

Leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement have been called terrorists, a threat to America. But in truth, they are loving women whose life experiences have led them to seek justice for those victimized by the powerful. In this meaningful, empowering account of survival, strength, and resilience, Patrisse Cullors and asha bandele seek to change the culture that declares innocent black life expendable.

Where the personal and political meet. . .

This is such an important memoir. It provides context for BLM through personal narrative and illustrates the dehumanizing disparities in multiple institutions in U.S. life. And it's just a really well-told story. Thank you, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, for being so giving of yourself so that some of us can better understand.

This book pulls at your heart strings

I was moved by the experiences that Patrice had to face and how her team kept showing up and continued to do so. This book gives a different perspective of what the war on drugs and the war on black people looks like

Incredibly powerful, beautifully done

I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It’s an incredibly thoughtful, sincere, powerful memoir that anyone living in the US today can learn from. It provided so much relevant insight into the Black Lives Matter movement as it relates to the political context, but most importantly to the lives of actual living breathing queer, Black Americans. I’m so inspired by this work and humbled by the act of love that I believe it is to share this with the world.

Got it for a class, finished it for me!

Hearing her story touched me in different ways. enlightening me on some topics and strengthening my views on others. We have different lives and experiences but have experienced similar feelings. I thank Patrisse for sharing her truth and allowing us the walk through it with her!

Awesome read

When I saw the title, “When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir”
by Asha Bandele and Patrisse Cullors, on #goodreads, I immediately went to #audiblebooks and downloaded it. An hour drive each way to my church gave me the time needed to listen to the last part of this book and finish it. The title comes from people of color and the #blacklivesmatter movement being considered as terrorists. This book is about how the movement started from two of the organizers. Awesome read. Definitely recommended.

Such an incredible story, and such an amazing person. I cried about 6 times while listening to this book, both from heart warming, and heart wrenching moments. This is such a wonderful depiction of growing up in America and I am so blessed to have listened this book.

Passionate and courageous!

A compelling, heart wrenching, vivid, informative, eye-opening portrayal of an America that exists almost in a different dimension than the world I grew up in.
