About this listen

In these newly collected essays, interviews, and speeches, world-renowned activist and scholar Angela Y. Davis illuminates the connections between struggles against state violence and oppression throughout history and around the world.

Reflecting on the importance of Black feminism, intersectionality, and prison abolitionism for today's struggles, Davis discusses the legacies of previous liberation struggles - from the Black freedom movement to the South African antiapartheid movement. She highlights connections and analyzes today's struggles against state terror, from Ferguson to Palestine.

Facing a world of outrageous injustice, Davis challenges us to imagine and build the movement for human liberation. And in doing so, she reminds us that "freedom is a constant struggle."

I am not alone

All of the things I've been thinking about for the last 30+ years... they're real. I'm grateful that my Canadian colleague pointed me in the direction of Angela Davis... because my family should have... based on my perspectives over the years.

A great person and a great audiobook

Great audiobook with excellent sound quality. Some of the passages repeat ideas previously presented, but they’re just different enough that it doesn’t get too repetitive. The tone of voice used is very soothing.

A powerful and galvanising book

This book blew my mind and a lot that I only had a vague grasp about was given light with facts and the intersectionality between oppression and activism in the USA and Palestine. Fascinating and illuminating. The narration is clear and calming and I will listen to this book again. Highly recommended.

So many powerful points

Angela Davis speaks truth and makes us think about all areas of injustice, not just those in America. Is anyone listening?

Brilliant

A beautifully compelling and heart-wrenching series of speeches and interviews depicting the parallels between the struggle for Black liberation in the United States and Palestine. Angela Davis describes the essential importance of solidarity and intersectionality while gifting readers with the necessary resources (in the form of activists and movements to research as well as book and article titles) for a detailed understanding of the global fight for racial justice and equality. Another instant classic from Dr. Davis.
