About this listen

A bighearted novel about falling in love, making a mess, and learning to let go, When You Get the Chance is the next effervescent novel from Emma Lord, New York Times best-selling author of the Reese Witherspoon YA Book Club pick You Have a Match.

Nothing will get in the way of Millie Price’s dream of becoming a Broadway star. Not her lovable but super introverted dad, who raised Millie alone since she was a baby. Not her drama club rival, Oliver, who is the very definition of Simmering Romantic Tension. And not her “Millie Moods,” the feelings of intense emotion that threaten to overwhelm. Millie needs an ally. And when an accidentally left-open browser brings Millie to her dad’s embarrassingly moody LiveJournal from 2003, Millie knows just what to do—find her mom.

But how can you find a new part of your life and expect it to fit into your old one without leaving any marks? And why is it that when you go looking for the past, it somehow keeps bringing you back to what you’ve had all along?

A great YA Mama Mia inspired story. I'm usually not a fan of YA but love Emma Lord so decided to give it a shot. Entertaining, heartfelt. The narrator did a fantastic job. overall big thumbs up

Really loved this. Such a sweet story, narration was age appropriate, and the ending had both predictable and unexpected moments.

Adorable

When You Get The Chance is one of the best young adult romances I’ve read! The characters are relate-able, there’s some drama, some laugh-out-loud moments, and is a true delight. Lord doesn’t resort to the same old tired style we’ve seen a lot in this genre.
Hopefully, Emma Lord will produce many more like this one!

This is the best Emma Lord book to date! I am always amazed at the feelings her books bring out of me. I chuckle, I cry, and through it all I have the warmest feeling in my chest.

I adored every character in this story! Millie is brave and fun and loud and outrageous. Teddy is the best friend we all want. Millie's dad is wonderful. And Oliver is 😍😍😍

I definitely got the Mama Mia inspiration here but this book was a story entirely is own as well. I'll be shoving this at everyone I know for the foreseeable future.

And Jesse Vilinsky is pure gold. I cannot get enough of her performances.

amazing

What a rollercoaster! Millie is such a loaf of fresh air, so serious and funny and over the top I was reminded of myself a few years back. She is exactly everything I could hope for in a drama/musicals lover, filled with much drama of her own as she tries to find her birth mother and find a way to live her dream of making it to Broadway.

A heartfelt ride
