This was a prequel and I must say I became very interested in this series after hearing it. The narrator did a great job.

Very intriguing

Blenman’s Necromantica impressed me with an experimental approach to the narration and twisted romance between protagonists. Whisper serves as a prelude to the Vecris series. And it’s damn good.

Narrated by the revived corpse of a fallen king urged to action by the whisper of Mornia (the Necromancer) it packs plenty of brutal twists in less than 50 pages. The King crosses the castle to save his daughter and his kingdom. He has no lips. His assassin was supposed to take his beard as a proof of a successful kill, but was too lazy to shave the corpse and just took half of its face. To make things more interesting a pregnant mouse named Butterscotch lives in the decomposing heart of the King feeding on his flesh. The king grew rather fond of her - you know, the cycle of life, and stuff.

I loved Whisper’s twisted sense of humor and Mornia’s unforgiving sense of purpose. I didn’t see the twists. Good. They made this simple story excellent. I suppose you can read Whisper as an introduction to the Vecris series, but it makes more sense to read Necromantica first. This way, once mysterious chess players appear, you’ll feel at home.

An excellent prequel.

I went into this blind and was very happy with what I found creeping around the castle. This prelude packed a crapload of intrigue, wonder and fantasy into it. There's murder, mayhem, necromancy and revenge and loss and makes me want to see what other items can be packed in.

The internal and external discussions were wonderful and played very well in the audiobook format and once I understood what was happening, i was hooked! I really fun way of looking at magic and empire building and destruction.

I wasn't ready for this

Well performed and worth the price of admission. Good as a standalone story, or as a companion to Necromantica.

A great companion story to Necromantica
