About this listen

When she hears that her younger brother, Danny, has committed suicide, Sayre Lynch relinquishes her vow never to return to Destiny, the small Louisiana town in which she grew up. She plans to leave immediately after the funeral, but soon finds herself drawn into the web cast by Huff Hoyle, her controlling and tyrannical father. Hoyle owns the town's sole industry and runs the lives of everyone who lives there. Her father and older brother, Chris, are as devious as ever with their new partner-in-crime, a disarming lawyer named Beck Merchant. When Sayre is thrown in closer contact with Beck, she senses something more sinister is at play.

As she sets out to learn just what did happen to Danny, Sayre is inextricably drawn into a struggle with striking laborers, her unscrupulous father, and her growing love/hate relationship with Beck - a man with mysteries of his own. A brilliant combination of hard-edged suspense and intense emotion, White Hot is master storyteller Sandra Brown at her very best.

Another Sandra Brown hit!

What did you like best about this story?

The story held my interest from beginning to end and made my long drive to work seem very short.

How could the performance have been better?

Getting tired of Victor Slezak's narration. The characters in this book have the same voices and expressions as the characters in the other books that he narrates. Victor is a good reader, but he needs to mix it up a little.

UGH - didn't notice it was abridged....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

NO - giving up. The abridged version leaves out so much stuff I can't even follow it! Massively huge plot holes. I can't stand abridged versions but I bought this on my iphone and didn't notice - so my bad. If it could be followed it would be ok...but when one character complains about being set up and the key info about incriminating evidence simply wasn't there I couldn't take it any more. Seems like a good story and the narrator was great. I know some people like abridged versions - but if you're going to put them out and charge money for them PLEASE at least make them coherent!

White Hot - Review

What made the experience of listening to White Hot the most enjoyable?

The story was captivating, suspenseful and kept your interest throughout the entire book. It was thoroughly enjoyable for both my husband and myself.

Have you listened to any of Victor Slezak’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't believe that I have listened to any other performance by Victor Slezak.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were many times when the story made you laugh but also times when you wanted to cry.

Good, but not the best

I really love anything Sandra writes but I felt it was a little lacking in depth. Good for a short listen since it was the abridged version ( not sure if I am a fan of that) , but I felt like the characters weren't as developed as her other books and the heroine wasn't as passionate and admirable . I would still recommend this book, but doesn't make the top 5 of SB books!

Not Sandra Browns best work, Not her worst either.

This book was pretty good. The shocking ending was great. I never would have guessed it. It's worth a credit. Sayre was tough and never backed down. I liked that about her. I wish there was an unabridged version of this book.

Total yawn...

I love this narrator and that is the only redeeming feature of this book. I am afraid that this is the last Sandra Brown book for me. I enjoyed the book "Envy" that is the book I can recommend by this author.
