Publisher's summary

Born into a fine old Charleston family, Hammond Cross is determined to be the city's next district attorney - without sacrificing his integrity. Prosecuting the sensational murder of real estate magnate Lute Pettijohn could be his ticket into the office. Yet while Hammond anticipates success, someone near him is plotting his downfall.

Steffi Mundell, colleague, ex-lover, and rival for the DA's office...Rory Smilow, the homicide detective without equal and Hammond's avowed enemy...the wily and beautiful Davee Pettijohn, Lute's widow and Hammond's lifelong friend, who's too honest to mourn the husband she despised...and Hammond's prime suspect, the mysterious woman who shares the secret that would be fatal to Hammond's ambitions.

Written in a narrative that grabs and doesn't let go, The Alibi is a top-notch crime novel - and more. With sensitivity and insight into the human condition, Sandra Brown also creates a forceful psychological portrait of a man in moral turmoil, who must make difficult choices between his personal passions and the demands of his conscience.

Good story; poor narration

The print book is a better choice if you're a Sandra Brown fan because Redfield's narration spoiled what would have been a great story. I don't need Victor Slezak to do an SB book (though he's my 1st choice) but there are far better male narrators out there than Redfield. He was expressionless and didn't sound like he was interested at all. That came across clearly such that I drifted away myself and ended up listening to something else.

I regretted the purchase and have requested a refund to buy something else. As for The Alibi, I'll go buy the ebook!

Good story!

skilled narrator. great story. a tad too much "gratuitous sex" (eye roll) for my taste.

One of my favorite Sandra Brown's!

The story was very good, the characters were great (love you Davee!), and the narration was excellent. Victor Slezak is usually my favorite Sandra Brown narrator, but Dennis Redfield was just fabulous on this book. Really enjoyed this one.

Great characters and plot twists.

This book will keep you interested right to the end. Some times the narration was flat but that did not take away from the colorful characters and tightly wound plot. I thought Sandra Brown's 'Envy' was slight better but only slightly.

The Alibi

I enjoyed this book. The characters are interesting and you care about what happens to them. The “love” between Hammond and Alex develops way too fast for me. Unrealistic, really. But I still liked the story. The narrator did a good job.

Another great work by a master storyteller

This is a great murder mystery by Sandra Brown, a master storyteller with the gift of intrigue, plot twists, deception, and the inevitable shocking conclusion. She is a wordsmith with both characters and locations, always making us feel as if we are there with her as she describes settings with a tapestry of colors, senses, desires, and subtle nuances. Old fans will recognize her trademark style in this novel, and newcomers will soon be captivated by her talents.

The Alibi

The last word in the book is in the title! This is almost as good as Envy
