Publisher's summary

The funniest and most popular sportswriter in America abandons his desk at Sports Illustrated to caddy for some of the world’s most famous golfers, and some celebrity duffers, recounting it all in this hilarious and revealing look at the world of golf.

Who knows a golfer best? Who’s with them every minute of every round, hears their muttering, knows whether they cheat? Their caddies, of course. So, sportswriter Rick Reilly figured that he could learn a lot about the players and their games by caddying, even though he had absolutely no idea how to do it. Amazingly, some of the best golfers in the world - including Jack Nicklaus, David Duval, Tom Lehman, John Daly, Casey Martin, and Jill McGill - agreed to let Reilly carry their bags at actual PGA and LPGA Tour events. To round out his portrait of the golfing life, Reilly also caddied at the Masters, persuaded Deepak Chopra and Donald Trump to use him as a caddy, accompanied high-rolling golf hustlers in Las Vegas around the course, and carried the bag for a blind golfer.

In Who’s Your Caddy?, Reilly chronicles his experiences in the same inimitable style that makes his back-page column for Sports Illustrated a must-read for more than 20 million people every week. From his laugh-out-loud portrait of Deepak Chopra decomposing on the green, to his portraits of good ol’ boys who bet $100,000 a round, to his hilarious descriptions of his own ineptitude as a caddy, to his insights into what makes the greats of golf so great, Reilly combines a wicked wit with an expert’s eye in a most original and entertaining look at golf. Who’s Your Caddy? is the next best thing to a great round of golf. It is sure to delight low-handicappers, high-handicappers, and everyone in between.

Critic reviews

"A truly funny, don't-miss read." (Publishers Weekly)

"This title demonstrates why Rick Reilly is considered by many to be the finest sportswriter in the country.... Reilly's stories range from warm to acerbic to hilarious. Grover Gardner's reading couldn't be better. He brings Reilly's written words to life brilliantly.... A book with appeal for everyone, including those with no interest in golf." (AudioFile)

Laughing Out Loud!

Rick Reilly does a fantastic job belittling himself just to be caddy to some famous, and not so famous golfers. He gets an inside look at various aspects of the game. His section on John Daly is worth the price of the book alone. Take some time away from practicing and playing golf, and give this book a listen.

Loved it!

Great read of fascinating stories about golf and some interesting people. Helps if you are interested in golf but would be a fun listen for anyone.
Reader has great voice and very entertaining rhythm. Reilly is a very clever writer. I just might start getting Sports Illustrated because of him.

Just the best

Great insights into the highs and lows of golf from PGA to LPGA to the icons of golf to the ultimate gambler and even the Donald. Rick has a metaphore or similie for every occation and great insights.

Believe me. It's the best!

Good subject but an uneven product

Reilly's book includes wonderful sections about Tom Lehman, Jack Nicklaus, and David Duval, along with a boring, wake-me-when-it's-over discussion with Deepak Chopra and conversations with John Daly that would have been better left unwritten. An uneven work that strays too far from golf at times.

Hilarious!!

This is a great audiobook. Grover Gardner is a great reader. My only complaint is that it is abridged. Who knows how much good stuff is left out?

Be ready to laugh

It's hard to get out of the car when I'm listening to the CD's. Learning more about Daly and Trump, as well as Tommy Aaron. This is a great listen.

Great book if you like golf

You'll recognize most of the people in the book even if you only have a fleeting interest in golf. Reilly is funny and the book keeps it interesting by bouncing from different golfers on Rick's funny quest. John Daly does not disappoint.

HILLARIOUS!!

I have listened to this download three times since downloading it just ten days ago! It's laugh out loud funny until the last spoken word, and the narrator is a joy to listen to. I wish it were unabridged (come'on Audible!), but that's just a minor quibble. If you love golf and the characters who play it, you'll love Who's Your Caddy?

Priceless, but unfortunately X-rated

Side splittingly funny, with wonderfully entertaining caricatures of the players, the other caddies, and himself. The only drawback is that I wish I could give it to my 16 year old golfing-daughter to read, but it is unfortunately X-rated -- not detractingly vulgar as an adult read, but clearly not for kids.

Great Time

This one was extremely enjoyable. Reilly is always entertaining and gives average golfers a glimpse of what it is like to play with the big boys (and girls). Very interesting, entertaining, and funny.
