About this listen

A sinfully hot enemies to lovers romance, about a seductive, a-hole (anti)hero on the brink of self-destruction and the quirky, kind-hearted heroine who discovers his darkest secret—and his heart.

I knew it was a mistake to kiss my best friend’s brother—especially behind my boyfriend’s back.
In my defense, I had a crush on Johnny for years.
But that was before I realized how much I hated him.

Now, thanks to the object of my hate crush, I’ve lost my relationship, my dream job, and my home.
Johnny has no idea it’s mostly his fault that my life has imploded, but the man is a dumpster fire of depravity and I really should’ve known better.
He’s an arrogant rock star, with the body of Adonis and the soul of Hades.
A coldhearted jerk who doesn’t seem to care who he hurts on his climb to the top.

But he’s also on the verge of career meltdown.

When his dirty deeds start catching up with him—and threatening his precious career—he offers me a job that I literally can’t afford to turn down.
As it turns out, it’s not so easy to hate on someone who walks around half-naked all the time looking like my hottest fantasy.
Worse, the more time we spend together… I realize there’s a lot more to my best friend’s brother than meets the eye.

Including a terrible, heartrending secret.

Despite everything, my heart aches for him.
I know I might be his last chance to make amends for the pain he’s caused.
I know we could help each other get our lives back on track.
But Johnny’s hurt me, too. How can I trust him not to do it again?

Hot

Who doesn’t love some self discovery?! Previously Ash held the book boyfriend title in my eyes. Idk, I think Johnny takes the cake. Let’s face it. We’ve all dated that one beautifully broken hot piece of ass at one point or another, wish our mere existence would put him back together. This is that story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Nothing like a bad boy rockstar

*I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review*

This is my first Jaine Diamond book and I don't know why I don't see more from her in my book circles!

Angeline and Johnny had a one night, one moment connection at a party - but has her best friend's brother and a MAJOR rockstar playboy he is strictly off limits. Not to mention her own long term boyfriend in the picture.

Fast forward 3 years and both characters lives are in turmoil (Angeline fired from her PR internship AND dumped by her boyfriend, Johnny in hot water with his bandmates who have decided to walk), they find themselves both needing each other in some way. A bit of forced proximity continues to turn the tension dial up, up, UP until things boil over.

Now Johnny is battling some past demons while trying to not push Angeline away and ALSO not lose her friendship with Shayla, Johnny's sister.

Jaine weaves together a colorful and musical world filled with rockstar ambitions and destructive behaviors. Picking up this interconnected standalone I didn't feel like I was losing anything not knowing the previous relationships of the side characters - which I find is a real testament to an author's writing chops.

Angelina Rocca brings a soulful performance as Angeline and Lee Samuels really leans into Johnny's torment and general apathy for life as a jaded rockstar. Both worked well together to bring this story to life!

Soooo GOOD….

I LOVE this series. There have been a few points within previous stories that became annoying, only because the lack of communication made certain situations EXTREMELY REPETITIVE. But overall, I truly love this whole series. This has been my absolute favorite!!! I can completely relate to Johnny in so many ways. I’m sure most instantly feel from the female prospective in this type of relationship, which I did as well, but within their story, I was all tears lust anger and love from his prospective. Ended Fucking beautifully ♥️

Moving on, I’m not going to ruin Shane’s story, but I will say I’ve been waiting for his and now that I’m 13 chapters in, I’m getting extremely annoyed by the immaturity of the FMC. (This particular author takes a very long time explaining history/building angst between the main characters in EVER story she writes. It can be extremely tedious. However, I do appreciate her thoroughness laying down the character history/ story line).
Hopefully Shane’s story will turn soon, because I’m quickly loosing interest the more I hear Jolie’s insecurities and lack of realization of their situation OVER AND OVER again.

My favorite villian

Wicked Angel by Jaine Diamond is a Rock Star, best friends sister, enemies to lovers Romance told in both MC POVs, no cliffhanger and with a HEA. This is book three in the Vancity Villians series. This book can be read as a stand alone, there are characters from the previous books that are in this book so I would read/listen to those books as well to get a better overall experience, and oh what an experience this world is. But if you do read/listen to this book first, I believe that the author gives enough backstory on the characters so you won’t feel lost.

The main characters are Johnny O’Reilly and Angeline Delacroix. We see small snippets of Johnny in other books in the Dirty series and Vancity Villians series and he definitely was in need of a redemption story. Angeline was such a delightful surprise, I loved her naughty side. I love both series and it just gets better with every book. The characters are complex and intriguing and their chemistry will rock your world. I recommend this book.

Truly impressed

By the authors deep, thoughtful, and heartfelt treatment of childhood trauma leading to adult PTSD, and how it can affect that adults relationships or lack thereof, with others.

All along the series, I had severely doubted that the author could pull off a book about this main male character, as an appealing protagonist after his behavior throughout the series. She pulled it off! She won me over!

I do wish there were fewer typos or malapropisms (like “indicted“ instead of “indicated“), and most especially her frequent use of “gratuitously“ in ways that are completely at odds with the definitions of the word.

But her storylines are head and shoulders above any other authors I’ve read (and I read 30 bucks a month) in these genres. They are as far out of “cookie cutter trope-land” as I could imagine it’s possible to be. As an example, her dealing with Ashley’s relationship progression throughout several books! I was so angry he didn’t get his happily ever after when I thought he would, but when he finally did, it was better than I could have hoped for.

Has all the feels!

I am always nervous starting an anti-hero book because you just don’t know if you will love or hate the H in the end. Johnny O is perfect and you actually start to feel sorry for him when you learn his story. Don’t get me wrong he did a lot of bad things but there are reasons. Angeline is the perfect match for Johnny and you truly can feel for how she deals with him. The narrators did a truly wonderful job bringing these characters to life and making you feel their story.

Johnny and Angie

This is my first audiobook In the Vancity Villians series I have listened to. Johnnys and Angelina story. Angelina is the younger sister of her famous rock star sister Elle. Angelina works for PR and Johnny the bad boy drummer the band. Can they keep their secret relationship for her sister and the public. Could this work? I thought these two narrators did a great job bring the emotions of theses characters to life.

Definitely Wicked

I love the narrators for this book. Lee Samuels has that voice with grit that just makes you feel it in your bones. Their portrayal of Angeline and Johnny was fantastic. Johnny is the bad boy rockstar and Angeline is the good girl who is down on her luck. Both their lives are in upheaval when they start their business arrangement. They both struggle with the undeniable connection and off the charts chemistry they feel. This was an emotional rollercoaster I want more of. Definitely a 4.5 star read/listen.
I was sent a free audiobook from Wordsmith Publicity and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
