Publisher's summary

Detective Jack Harker is living in his dreams - only they're really nightmares. Ivy Morgan wants to help, especially since she's become a frequent visitor in his subconscious - only she doesn't know how. When a battered teenage girl shows up in Ivy's greenhouse, the duo must put aside their misgivings and constant miscommunication so they can try and help.

Sixteen-year-old Kelly Sisto is living in a nightmare of her own, and whether through trauma or refusal, she can't tell Ivy and Jack what happened to her. Shadow Lake's favorite witch and newest police transplant have their hands full with Kelly, but it's their hearts that are getting away from them.

When the truth of Kelly's sad life is finally revealed, everyone is in danger, and they're going to have to work together if they want to survive - and find a happy ending.

Hard to Care for the Main Characters

The story line is fairly good, but I must admit the two main characters are sorely lacking in pleasing personalities. The agitated fights over absolutely everything was neither funny or endearing. Ivy is both rude and obnoxious most of the time. Jack was not far behind. Of course that’s how it was written, and the performance was a bit sharp toned and perhaps increased the negativity of this book. I got this book as a romance package item. If I hadn’t, I’d have returned it by chapter four.

Fun story

The story as always was fun. The performance was tough to take. The voices were either monotone and robotic or not believable. For instance a 16 year old girl should not sound like a seductive adult.

Reads like it’s written by an 8 yr old.

What may have been an interesting plot is killed with Adults saying lines like ‘you’re not the boss off me’ and “you’re a butt head” cringe worthy
Poorly edited with repeated sentences and questionable language.
Pity.

Narrator almost killed the story

Overall, a good light mystery to get you through quarantine. With a few dark issues touched on but not delved into, a balance is created to help offset the too-happy tone of the main character. But I found the narration lacking. Emotions were improperly portrayed at times. If you are not paying close attention to the words being said you may lose the slight sexual undertones. At times it is hard to tell the female characters apart which I prefer to the HORRIBLE male voices she attempts. If the next book was on Audible Escape, I would definitely be getting it. As I would have to pay for it, I will look it a digital copy so I can read it myself.

Another winner...

I am now halfway through this series. And I am still loving it. Jack and Ivy are still fighting their attraction, but have to put it on the back burner to catch another bad guy. Great dialogue, great characters, and a great plot.

poor narriation....and

The narrator lacks the ability to give the characters personality. and a serious overuse of the word "I" is beyond intolerable. I was hoping the series would get better, sadly it got worse. i will not waste money on purchasing any of this series.

cute story, fun series.

the narration isnt my favorite. The voice of Ivy is always a little too whiny. The dialogue for the men is a little on the "what women wish men say about them to each other" side at times. Over all it's cute and held my attention enough to make housework go by quickly!

Horrid narrator!

I have n't read this book so looked forward to listening. Unfortunately, the voice the narrator chose to give the femail protagonist was so immature, whiny and nasal, I just couldn't stand more than a couple minutes of it. Really painful. We're forced to give a rating for the story, so I had no choice but to rate it as low as the performance Not fair to the author, but that's the fault of the company that recorded the audiobook.
