Publisher's summary

Brenda Grant has no desire to marry. Ever since her first, horrible marriage, she's made herself into a hellion of a woman to keep men from wanting her. But the Campbells, her previous husband's family, are determined to find her a new husband.

Highland Chief Bothan Gunn is smitten by the woman who won't be tamed. It takes all Brenda's willpower to resist the brawny Highlander who takes her to safety. But as they spend time together - and grow ever closer - Brenda finally finds the freedom she's been longing for all along.

My escape

I listen to books to help me get through the day. I won’t by myself 365 days a year with the rescue animals and like to escape to other times and places and learn new things. This book is a great escape for me.

Good Story,,,but

I liked this series and most of the characters. But, in this story, the female main character is just annoying. She fights and argues just for the sake of arguing. It's distracting nd irritating. I wish the end of the series hadn't been so obnoxious.

Save your money

The hero is very good and likable. Narration is good. Brenda is the most annoying and just plain terrible character. The book was extremely tedious and I struggled to finish.

meh.

okay, first off I find book and buy them based on the narrator. Mr. Ferguson is a new narrator to me, and while he's good... he's good at two voices only. all the women sound the same, and all the men sound the same. 2nd. the story kinda sucked. Brenda was the dumbest woman,, although the author wanted her to be seen as strong, defying, and bold. she was whiny and an idiot. "I won't be a man's chattel." was repeated every single time that woman spoke. Yet, she was the very definition of chattel. If she wasn't chattel to her husband, she was chattel to the king of Scotland, then to the Queen of England, then to the Campbell clan, then the Southerland clan. Legitimately the only person who didn't treat her as chattel was our hero... who she verbally assaulted the entire book, and then kept threatening to end their marriage. The ending was lackluster as well.

Too repetitive

Too repetitive of the stories in series.
Too much of the same themes over and over in each chapter. Heroine too argumentative, stubborn and childish.

Narration good, but unoriginal storyline

Not worth the credit. I started listening to Mary Wine's Highlander Brides series because the first four books were at no additional cost to me and Anthony Ferguson was the narrator. I wanted to know what happened to Brenda Grant so I decided to spend a credit for the sixth book. I now regret that decision because I lost out on listening to a more interesting book. It seems every book in this series was on repeat, same conflict, character action and reaction, internalization, and dialogue, but rewritten with different character names and setting. Halfway in the story, I became frustrated and bored, and moved on to another book. If you want to know what happens just read book one and be done with the entire series.

it had so much potential!

Brenda went through so much in the previous books that I wanted to know how she processes everything and what happened to her. but the author just repeats that "she took what happened and became stronger"... there is no depth. sooo disappointed
