About this listen

Angila was stabbed 44 times.

This was personal.

On a November morning in 2015, Christopher Jackson waited for his fiancée, Angila Wilder, to pick him up from work as she always did. But this time, she didn’t show - and Christopher’s calls went unanswered. The police found what looked like a scene from a horror movie at their home. The backdoor kicked in. A bedroom splattered with blood. And a pregnant young woman violently stabbed to death.

Could Christopher have murdered the woman he claimed to love? Or was the crime done by an intruder Angila had feared for weeks? Angila’s womanizing ex-husband, Richie Wilder, Jr., aimed detectives straight toward Christopher. The evidence, however, pointed squarely at Richie.

Kindergarten teacher Cynthia Wilder thought her dreams had come true when she married Richie. But while her husband sat behind bars, Cynthia grew lonely. When she shared some disturbing details with a former lover, Cynthia finally revealed the truth behind the sinister plot to kill Angila Wilder. After four years of lies and deceit, the real story would shock a community to its very core....

Great book

Great writing! Horrible narrator...so many words mispronunced. Is there no audible director or editor?
A disservice to an otherwise excellent book.

Good story, not a great narrator

Narrator needs to look up pronunciation and make sure she uses the right words in general. She substitutes words like this: exacerbate vs exasperate. Good story, though, written as a thorough retelling.

Very intriguing!

This is about an event that I did not recall seeing in the news. With much family from ND and my husband born at the hospital that Richie Wilder worked at, made it all the more fascinating. The small town of New England, ND is the town my dad was born and raised in. Don’t let negative comments about the narrator keep you from listening. It wasn’t the best I’ve listened to, but once you got used to her inflections and voice changes, it flows fine! Highly recommend!

Cmon Mr. Wynn, didn’t you get the memo....

It’s worth spending the extra money on a experienced and exceptional narrator, as it will make or break the nook, no matter how brilliantly written. This book was good but would have been great, but I was distracted with the subpar narration. Not horrible but distracting.

Always love a murder story

I am a frequent listener to murder podcasts, 48 Hours/Dateline shows, etc. I had never heard any coverage of this case, which was refreshing. That being said, the story is too long, with much repetition of facts in the case.
My biggest beef was the narration. While I found her voice pleasant, even soothing, there were at least a dozen mispronounced words that made me wince. Ugh. Really takes me out of the story. "Poignant" is the word that stands out most, as it was repeated a number of times.

best true crime book thus far

I enjoyed this book and how it is written. for being C.J. Wynn's first book, I think she did a fabulous job. It's just so sad what happened to Angela, I think in her fight for life she did what she had to to make sure he was caught. Divine intervention came to play with that one solitary drop of blood. Angela can rest in peace now. I could only imagine the guilt felt by her fiancé because she knew she was being watched and followed. she knew something was wrong that faithfull night. But who would think that there was such a nightmare of a plot to murder was being planned out? nobody in their right mind could have known. I Sicerely hope Chris had found some peace knowing his beautiful fiancé 's murderers are locked up for the rest of their miserable lives. I hope he finds joy and love in that little boy of theirs.

Good book !

I feel that this was a really good book. I do highly recommend it. I do feel like there was a little bit of redundancies that could probably have been left out but overall I think it was great and I do recommend it.

Mostly takes place in Courthouse

What I liked:
-The beginning of book, flow and narrative
- complex Character details of key players
-Vivid picture of crime from various angles

What I didn’t like:
-Female narrator does annoying “man voice”
-TMI Boring bios of police, judicial staff
-most of book is court not what led to it

Long Time True Crime Listener

This is the best True Crime book I feel I have ever listened to and I'm amazed this is C.J. Wynn's first book. I can't wait for her next one. Katrina Medina was amazing In narrating the story. I give it all a 10+

Good story, poor performance

The story was engaging but the voice actor mispronounced a lot of words including "recuse" as "rescue". It really took me out of the story.
