Publisher's summary

Wildflowers of Terezin is a sweeping historical novel set against a backdrop of danger. A Danish Lutheran pastor's complacent faith is stretched to the breaking point during World War II when he meets a young Jewish nurse, Hanne Abrahamsen, and becomes deeply involved in Resistance efforts to save Denmark's Jews from the Nazi prison camp at Terezin, Czechoslovakia - also known as Theresienstadt. Challenged by his evangelical brother and swayed by his own attraction to Hanne, Pastor Steffen abandons his formerly quiet, uninvolved life and hesitantly volunteers to help smuggle Denmark's Jews out of the country before a Nazi roundup. Steffen finds that helping his Jewish neighbors is the most decent, spiritual thing he has ever done. As he actually does God's work, rather than just talking about it, Steffen's faith deepens and he takes greater risks in his sermons. When things go terribly wrong and Hanne is sent to Terezin, Steffen finds his heart fully engaged. He undertakes protests and rescues that are more and more dangerous, never imagining where it will lead him or the ultimate cost of his decision to get directly involved.

Great story!

I love historical novels, especially when they are fictional, but based on a true story. Thank you for telling the story, including some of the horrors of the time.

Unnatural and exaggerated pronunciation.

Overexaggerated, unnaturally stretched pronunciation. Story is great, and the man voicing it isn't doing it justice by reading it like a kid's story, separating every letter of every word.

#abrknpoet reviews Wildflowers of Terezin

Wildflowers of Terezin by Robert Elmer is a historical novel that explores the themes of faith, love, and courage during the Nazi occupation of Denmark in World War II. The main characters are Steffen, a Danish Lutheran pastor who joins the Resistance movement to help the Jews escape, and Hanne, a Jewish nurse who falls in love with him. The book portrays the harsh realities of life under Nazi rule, the dangers of smuggling Jews out of the country, and the horrors of the Terezin concentration camp. The book also shows how Steffen’s faith is challenged and strengthened by his involvement in God’s work, and how Hanne’s hope is sustained by her love for Steffen and her trust in God. The book is well-written, engaging, and informative. It offers a glimpse into a lesser-known aspect of the Holocaust and the heroic efforts of the Danish people to save their Jewish neighbours. The book is suitable for both young and adult readers who enjoy historical fiction with a Christian perspective. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes stories of faith, romance, and resistance in the face of evil.

Christian Historical Romance

What an unlikely couple, finding love in the worst of circumstances! And I think they both met God during this terrible time. There were parts that seemed so reaI I'm not sure if it was truly fiction or not.
I thought the narration was very good, a few times Steffen sounded like a different character, but everything else was about perfect!
I wish we would have had follow up on Hanne's mother, but that's all I was missing from this haunting story!

Well written

Where does Wildflowers of Terezin rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Excellent narration, accurate pronunciations and accent . Good story line, especially if you're one who easily pictures the novel as if you're present. I appreciate that it has vivid details but isn't overbearing, worth the credit.

Superb Listen

Very good dramatization of one of histories darkest times. Great narration, including accents and doing both genders. Well worth the money!

What ending?

What the heck. It just kind of ended. It’s like the writer just got tired of writing the story. It was good up until the end then bam it just stopped and had a crummy ending.
The narrator and narration was good and I liked everything else about it.

Challenging book.

Challenging novel. the author deals with some of the moral dilemmas that Christians dealt with during WII and the Sufferings of the Jews. very well done and no use of any profanity or gratuitous language.
