A solid Detective/Killer Audiobook

This was interesting. It held my attention from beginning to end. The bad guy in this one is definitely an interesting character. And the thing with the parents... oh my god. Unbelievable. I'm pretty sure this was given to me as an ARC (Thanks!!!). I definitely plan on checking out more from Gamble. And the narrator was beyond excellent, IMO. Sign me up for more!!!

Kept my interest from start to finish.

I was given a copy of this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this review.

I liked how the story flowed. It was a bit confusing at times because of the poetry, but overall, the story captured my interest and imagination throughout.

The narrator enunciated the words clearly, and his voice was easy to listen to.

Contemplative Detective with Poetry & Art

I am still not sure what to think about this book. I love mysteries and detective fiction. The idea of having poetry and art with the book sounded intriguing... but I'm not sure it all quite fit together.
I enjoyed the book overall. I liked the "villain" of the book best, and enjoyed the author's descriptions of how he carried out the murders and his motivation. The villain and his actions were the most interesting and compelling portions of the book. The detective was a nice man who was a bit bland but enjoyable.
The author does not use dialog to further the story, but instead relies on "he told me that..." and other elliptical means of communicating new information. Because of this lack of direct interaction, everything occurs in first person in the detective's mind (and in third person in the murderer's actions). Personally, I prefer finding things out in dialog, but the detective is a contemplative person, hence the poetry and meditations on various spiritual topics. I'm sure that musing about the soul and its presence or absence is appropriate after several murders... but it didn't quite fit together for me.
I received this audiobook for free with the stipulation that I write a review for it. (Except that my promo code didn't work so I paid for it anyway!).

OK

Willow Down. . An OK read.
The story didn't grip me, but it was easy to finish it.
The murder mystery was not believable to me. A light read.
Narration is good, it is clear and concise.

Totally gripping.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. And, it was amazing!! A totally tripping read start to finish. It took a second for me to dive deep, but once I got in, I couldn't get out until I was done. Part police procedural in some ways, and a murder mystery to boot, it meshed well together. RYAN's narration was fabulous and utterly gripping too. I also picked up the ebook to read when I couldn't listen, and it was as good as the audio. They both lended well together. Thanks Yan and Mark for letting me read this gem. I can't wait to see more.

not what I was expecting

The narration of the book was excellent. The style of writing was different from what I prefer. The story starts out with the detective in first person then goes into great details of the killer in third person. Poems, quotes and song are thrown in. I just couldn't get into the flow of the book.

Detective story with colorful writing - good read!

*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary review.*

4.5/5

I was impressed by this book. The speedy read through and the easy to follow plotline kept me engaged. I personally think it's not that easy to have two separate main POV's from a hero and villain and have it work. Gamble does this flawlessly; not only do I relate to the main character, but he also made me relate and feel for the villain in this story too. Well done. My only gripe with this story is that its too damn short!! I wish Gamble would have fleshed out the ideas a little more, I wanted more on both accounts - MC and villain. Gamble does an excellent job painting each scene as if it were a canvas and we are absorbing it. I feel that we havent seen the last of Mitch Perry, and I would be interested in reading more stories from Gamble.

I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Bodies in New York

A former NY police detective turned consultant is called in to consult on a murder involving a headless, limbless torso. He soon finds himself embroiled in a serial killer case.
I loved the action, the intrigue and the completely off the rails murderer on a mission elements of this story.
Well worth your time.
