About this listen

From the New York Times best-selling author Thomas Perry, "who can be depended upon to deliver high-voltage shocks" (Stephen King), comes a new thriller about an unlikely burglar - a young woman in her 20s - who realizes she must solve a string of murders or else become the next victim.

Elle Stowell is a young woman with an unconventional profession: burglary. But Elle is no petty thief - with just the right combination of smarts, looks, and skills, she can easily stroll through ritzy Bel Air neighborhoods and pick out the perfect home for plucking the most valuable items. This is how Elle has always gotten by - she is good at it, and she thrives on the thrill. But after stumbling upon a grisly triple homicide while stealing from the home of a wealthy art dealer, Elle discovers she is no longer the only one sneaking around. Somebody is searching for her.

As Elle realizes her knowledge of the high-profile murder has made her a target, she races to solve the case before becoming the next casualty, using her breaking-and-entering skills to uncover the truth about exactly who the victims were and why someone might have wanted them dead.

With high-stakes action and shocking revelations, The Burglar will keep listeners on the edge of their seats as they barrel toward the heart-racing conclusion.

From breaking the law to helping the law....

I've seen some very mixed reviews about Thomas Perry's new book but I loved it! Talk about taking an about face this character takes.
Elle is a burglar who decides to rob the home of a wealthy art dealer What she finds instead is three dead bodies locked in a ménage a trois. Not realizing there are pinhole cameras she takes a video camera the threesome had been using. The next thing Elle knows, she is being hunted.
When her best friend is murdered because of her, Elle decides it's either find out who committed the murders or be the next victim.
What happens next is a wild game of cat and mouse. People are after her and she wants to get enough evidence to get them convicted. But first she must find out who they are! It will take all of her burglary skills to break into some of the most dangerous places (for her) to find out who and more important why.
Christina Delaine does an excellent job narrating. She also narrates "The Fixer" series.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I was an okay story

It reminded me of a made for television movie or an episode of a detective series where we've got a pretty good story and it comes up on the time limit and all of a sudden their is a " wow, I've got it" moment and next a confession, then it's over.

Good story, narrator painful

I did figure out that if you change the narration speed to 1.20, it's not bad at all.

Wow! A Real Thriller

Elle Stowell is a burglar in LA and she's good at her job. While prowling a home for loot, she finds evidence of multiple murders. The situation turns personal and Elle begins to investigate to find out who did the crime and why. The action is heart-pounding, as Elle has many close calls with discovery or death. Christina Delaine's narration is outstanding. This one's a keeper.

Long story with good ending

The story was very detailed and started slow however ; it kept me interested and yearning for the climax. I love mysteries and this was a good one. I will recommend this book. Thanks for the great listen!

Not What I Expect from Tom Perry

Story was good but not great. All of the books that I have read by Thomas Perry have been great (with perhaps “The Bombmaker being the best). This book was only average but made worse by the narration. Maybe use January Lavoy on the next book requiring female narration. Also, the ending left something to be desired. While I don’t need “everything wrapped up” the ending left too many things open.

Dragged On And On…And On

First time I ever read/listened to this author…not impressed! It started out ok, but he got lost in the middle. I stuck it out, but it was an effort. Glad I didn’t waste a credit on it! Narrator was fine. What a relief to be done! I definitely would not recommend!
