About this listen

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before

The audiobook of Witches Abroad is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'You can't go around building a better world for people. Only people can build a better world for people. Otherwise, it's just a cage.'

There's power in stories. The Fairy Godmother is good. The servant girl marries the Prince. Everyone lives happily ever after... don't they?

The witches Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick are travelling to far-distant Genua to stop a wedding and save a kingdom. But how do you fight a happy-ever-after, especially when it comes with glass slippers and a power-hungry Fairy Godmother who has made Destiny an offer it can't refuse?

It's hard to resist a good story, even when the fate of the kingdom depends on it...

'No one mixes the fantastical and mundane to better comic effect' Daily Mail

'One of our greatest fantasists, and beyond a doubt the funniest' George R.R. Martin

Witches Abroad is the third book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Indira Varma gives perfect voice to the Discworld

I have loved all the Discworld books forever. Now I have found a new love...Varma's narration.

Very nice indeed

Sir Terry is always a treat, and this new rendition is amazingly good. Can't wait for the rest

Typically great Pratchett’s story, excellent narrator

As always, Pratchett hits it out of the park. This narrator is tremendous. Great listening experience.

Another of the great ones

This is another of the great Pratchett novels. It is also an ongoing commentary on the power of story, especially of fairy tales.

favorite one so far

I've been working my way through the witches stories by Pratchett and this one is my favorite by far.

The chime before and after each footnote broke the immersion.

And I understand DEATH being voiced by someone else but I feel like a third voice for the footnotes became more of a distraction even though those are parts I usually enjoy.

Indira’s performance however was lovely and her range for characters and accents is delightfully broad.

Pratchett would be proud, I think.

Indira is a masterful reader and she does Pratchett work justice. If you’ve already read Pratchett’s work, I need say nothing more. He was a genius storyteller and this work is no different.

What a nice story story with a happy enough ending.

Happy endings ain’t all they’re cracked up to be. Always a treat to hear another TP story.

I miss Death SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS.

Andy Serkis does a good job, but I miss Nigel Planer's version of Death. You could tell he was speaking with the Caps lock on, just the way Death does in the book. Serkis' version of death takes some of the fun out of Death's personality.
