Publisher's summary

A good witch must face and defeat an evil witch from another time. There are witches in the world...some are good and some of them are downright evil.

Amanda Givens is careful how she uses her benevolent powers. She doesn't want the people of Canaan, Connecticut, to know they have a witch among them...even a good, white witch. For years, she's lived quietly in a remote cabin with Amadeus, her quirky feline familiar. At first, she'd lived with her husband Jake, the love of her life, until a car accident; but now alone after his death.

When she's wrongly blamed for a rash of ritualistic murders committed by a satanic cult, she knows she can no longer hide. She's the one the cult is after, and she is the only one who can stop them and prove her innocence. Yet, as punishment for fighting and destroying the cult, she's drawn back in time by the ghost of the dark witch Rachel Coxe, who was drowned for practicing black magic in the 17th century.

Now, Amanda tries to rehabilitate Rachel's reputation in an effort to save lives as well as her own. She falls in love all over again with Joshua, her reincarnated dead husband from the future, and has to rely on a sister's love and magical knowledge, as well as a powerful sect of witches named the Guardians, to help her get home safely.

Took a while to get into-loved it

I loved it. I was worried it would be a sappy overdone love story and it took me a bit to get comfortable with the tone and the way the author writes but once I did I just loved it.
The characters are easy to like and well developed. There were even a few chapters that made me cringe and others that were somewhat scary. I can't wait to listen to the next one!!
The narrator perfectly fits this book.

not too bad of a tale

This isn't the type of book I normally read but it wasn't too bad. If you like witch tales, this is a good one to get. The writing was fine, it just wasn't my type of book.

Witchingly Wonderful

What a great story that spans over multiple periods of time. The author gets in depth with these characters so that the reader is truly invested. The narrator does a fantastic job bringing the story & characters to life - I particularly like the mouse's squeaky voice. I look forward to more from this author & narrator

A Magical Tale

I really enjoyed this book. At first, I was not too sure about it because it starts very slow but be patient because it is worth the slow world building and the outstanding character development.

Narration was great and brought the story to life. I was unsure about the narration at first but it does fit the story very well.

There are some dark sections with some scary elements that made the story quite spooky at times. The story is well written and sucks you in. The story picks up after awhile and I felt like I was part of it.

I absolutely loved the animal familiars mentioned throughout this book. It was the icing on the cake for me!

Overall an outstanding book with loss, mystery, witchcraft, adventure, time travel, danger, murder, and a touch of romance.

I’m looking forward to book 2!

Witches

The story does start of slow but once it gets going you are hooked and can't stop listening to it until the very end.
This book has many things going on. Some I was not expecting compare to others. It has time travel, mystery, witchcraft, and romance.

A Great Start to the Series

Amanda Givens is a white witch who lives quietly in the woods of Canaan, Connecticut. She is very careful about how and when she uses her magic so that people will not find out that a witch lives among them. Amanda's husband, Jake, recently died in a car accident and Amanda is devastated by his death.

While still grieving, she is accused of ritualistic murders committed by a cult - a cult that is after her. And she is the only one who can stop this cult and redeem herself, but when she goes to the setting of the murders, she is suddenly drawn back in time to take the place of dark witch Rachel Coxe in the 17th Century. Everyone still sees Rachel when they look at her. Rachel's children are afraid of her. Amanda must change history and Rachel's reputation in the 17th Century, hoping that will return her to her time. Meanwhile, she meets a man who looks just like Jake and learns that he was Rachel's lover. Part of her wants to remain in the past to stay with this man, whom she believes Jake is the reincarnation of.

A pretty good story, with shades of the 1960's TV series "Dark Shadows," which had a similar story, recreated in the 1991 remake of the show, for anyone who may remember either version. In it, a young woman is sent into the past during a seance, and takes the place of a young woman from 1795 who was wrongly accused of witchcraft and hanged for her supposed sin. She must convince the people of 1795 that she is not the witch who is destroying the lives of the family she is staying with.

I don't know whether those shows inspired Kathryn Meyer Griffith in writing this story, but it was different and thoroughly enjoyable as well. I plan to listen to the next book in the series soon.
