THE THIRD BOOK IN THE KATE MARTINELLI MYSTERY SERIES

In Laurie R. King's With Child, adrift in mist-shrouded San Francisco mornings and alcohol-fogged nights, homicide detective Kate Martinelli can't escape the void left by her departed lover, who has gone off to rethink their relationship. But when twelve-year-old Jules Cameron comes to Kate for a professional consultation, Kate's not sure she's that desperate for distraction.

Jules is worried about her friend Dio, a homeless boy she met in a park. Dio has disappeared without a word of farewell, and Jules wants Kate to find him Reluctant as she is, Kate can't say no--and soon she finds herself forming a friendship with the bright, quirky girl. But the search for Dio will prove to be much more than both bargained for—and it's only the beginning.

When Jules disappears while taking a trip with Kate, a desperate search begins...and Kate knows all too well the odds of finding the child alive...

The third in the series and my favorite.

This book was my favorite after the original, the first one that is. The narrator gives perfect voice to an incredible character, a very strong, powerful character. I found no fault at all with the narrative. The bond between Kate and Jules is a strong sisterly one and very charming and funny, at times serious but always entertaining. A very strong objection to the author for allowing Kate to be a little too quick to forgive someone who betrayed her so completely. Lee should have been shown firsthand what her deception and betrayal led to and I so wish this book had ended with Kate walking out on Lee. Could have picked up in book four. Kate deserved so much better than she got. But..Oh my! To finally have a voice to go with Kate. Excellent narration.

Another win for Ms. King. Loved it!!

Book 3 in the series, Kate hunt for Jules and Lee has left her. Laurie King is an excellent author. This is an excellent series, and Katie Martinelli book 3 is what I expected. I am thoroughly enjoying the Kate Martinelli series. Ms King has a wonderful mind to create original storylines, keeping the series fresh. Alyssa Bresnahan gives a great performance, brining life to the characters with their own distinct voice. I highly recommend this book and series.

the best

I'm so glad Audible has acquired the Kate Martinelli series. I listen to them many years ago and they're just as good this time around. With Child was one of my favorite ones.

Clever

I'm more of a fan of Laurie R. King every book. As with her others, this book is smart, but doesn't weigh you down with the grief of the mystery.

I enjoyed it!

Very exciting once it got going.

I gave the story 4 stars only because the first part of the book spent too much time on Kate's wallowing in unhappiness. Once she got herself on track, it picked up. I loved her relationship with Jules. The ending got so exciting I had to stay up late to finish.

Good but not my favorite

I love these books but I think the main characters are smarter than portrayed here. It was still enjoyable and recommended.

Can't get enough of Kate and family(ies)!

I'm thinking the families in King's Kate Martinelli detective novels are closer to real life than what we read in the Dick and Jane primers I grew up with. Happy there are more to come!
