About this listen

In With Love from a Children’s Therapist, Stacy Schaffer takes readers on a deeply personal and professional journey through trauma, resilience, and healing. As a survivor and a therapist with more than twenty years of experience, Schaffer weaves together her story with the lessons she’s learned from working with children, teens, and young adults.

She explores:

  • The lasting impact of childhood trauma and the path to recovery.
  • How anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation manifest in young people.
  • Practical ways to create safety, understanding, and healing for ourselves and others.

Raw, honest, and deeply compassionate, this book is a testament to the power of storytelling in breaking silence and fostering healing. For anyone seeking understanding, hope, or a way forward, With Love from a Children’s Therapist is an essential listening.

With Love from a Children's Therapist by Stacy Schaffer is a compelling blend of memoir and professional insight that delves deeply into the complexities of childhood trauma and the healing process. Drawing from over two decades of experience as a licensed professional counselor, Schaffer masterfully intertwines her personal journey with the powerful stories of the children and families she’s supported.

What makes this book especially meaningful is how Schaffer builds bridges across generations. As someone who grew up in the '80s and '90s and is now raising a pre-teen/teen, I found myself resonating with her reflections and the way she connects past experiences to the challenges children face today. Her honest, heartfelt storytelling offers a profound understanding of resilience, recovery, and the enduring importance of empathy and connection.

This is not just a book for therapists—it's a valuable and affirming read for anyone navigating parenthood, healing from past wounds, or simply seeking to better understand the emotional lives of children. Excellent read!

This is a must read for any parent, auntie, grandparent, mental health worker…... The author Stacy really touched my heart with her experiences of not only her life but that of kiddos she has worked with. Hearing her read about the traumas and tragedies in her life and knowing how she has slayed her own #denyingthedragon makes it abundantly clear that as a clinician she identifies first hand with her clients. One big take away from this author is the importance of listening to the children and learning how to appropriately respond in a manner that the children won’t shut down. (be their safe place) Her kind and gentle ways can be felt via this easy read book. She weaves her past, present and future in such a way that it demonstrates how we all could influence the trajectory of a young person’s life. She encourages us to recognize that healing such traumas and tragedies in a child’s life takes time, commitment and there is no shame in having a therapist to support. This book is about healing and the author does a remarkable job. Just buy it and you won’t be disappointed-I promise.
