About this listen

His name is Nathan Garrett, but he’s also known as Hellequin. And murdering one of his friends and trying to blow him up is a good way to get this centuries-old sorcerer’s full attention… An old friend’s dead body, a cryptic note, and an explosion that almost costs him his own life propel Nate headfirst into a mystery involving a new threat from an old foe. Now he must piece together the connections between a grisly series of tattooed murder victims, an imprisoned madman, a mysterious alchemist, and a deranged plot to usurp the throne of the hidden realm of Shadow Falls, rival to the power of Avalon.

Can Nate avert the coming slaughter, or will he become the latest to fall in this clandestine war?

With the story careening between modern-day New York and Ontario and 1977 Maine, With Silent Screams continues the gritty and action-packed mix of urban fantasy and ancient mythology that mark Steve McHugh’s popular Hellequin Chronicles.

Great book and awesome narration..

Wow! These stories just get better and better.

This one was about Simon and Patricia and their group of murderers killing and torturing young people looking for a tattooist then killing them if they didn’t turn out to be the one. AND these murderers were really insane. The description of what they did and how they laughed while doing it was just incredible. The author really made you hate them.

I do love Nate/Hellequin, he’s so brutally magical, and yet so loving to his friends, protecting them with all he has.

I like King Galahad, too. As well as Caitlin, the FBI Agent, and her parents Hades and Persephone.
Wow, what a lot of mythical people in these books.

Yeah, one stupid sex scene AGAIN, and the F-bomb was used 118 times.

As to the narration: James Langton is a wonderful narrator. Voices and emotions are an A-1 rating.

Hellequin Chronicles are amazing

I will begin with the fact I have read the book, but wanted something to listen to an the way to work!

The initial shock of a new voice of the book, other then my own, quickly wore off (does not always happen like that).

The novel is as gripping as when I read it the first time. Steve McHugh has a marvelous sence of timing and his wonderfully empowered female characters are a breath of fresh air!

Please hurry up and write book 4!!!

What did you love best about With Silent Screams?

The constant growning and revelation of the Hellequin. He is "evolving" (for lack of a better word) into someone more powerful each episode. On the edge of my seat waiting to see what he will be come. Saddened though that he sacrificed one power for another though!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Toss up between the Hellequin and Ares.

What does James Langton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Everything!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hellequin is strapped to the table and seemingly is going to be tortured, BUT he is not worried at all! Like he has a secret. . . .

Any additional comments?

PLEASE HURRY UP WITH BOOK 4! PLEASE!!!
Of all the books I listen to, the Hellequin Series tops the list. . . but only just a hairs breadth ahead of the Iron Druid Chronicles!

Another excellent read in the series

This series has become a favorite of mine. The character development gets better with every book, the plot is well done, the flashbacks are well-timed and add to the story, and the overall writing is excellent. Combine that with a great narration and you can't go wrong!

If Dresden had a dark side.

I'm so happy that I found this series it is the urban fantasy that I have been waiting for one that is made for an adult audience.

This is my favorite book in this series so far

There were multiple moments where I either laughed out loud or feel utter grief stricken for/because of one of the characters. If you have read the first books in this series and are on the fence I highly recommend this book.

Good as Usual

This is a well-told story that is brought alive by an excellent narrator. Enjoyable.
