About this listen

She wants her degree. But she just became a suspect of first-degree murder....

Jessica James is broke and counting down the days until she can defend her philosophy thesis. Desperate to get out of her grubby attic digs, she and her friends break into her professor’s office…only to find her adviser dead in the tub. Scoping the crime scene for clues, she leaves evidence that makes her both a suspect and a target.

Suspecting the school's Russian janitor of doing more than sweeping the floors, Jessica mounts an investigation to clear her name. And when her ragtag posse helps her uncover a related date-drug scandal, repeated attempts on her drink make her fear she’s the next on the killer’s to-do list.

Can Jessica unmask the murderer before her degree gets buried six feet under?

Wolf is the first stand-alone novel in the exhilarating Jessica James mystery series. If you like sassy detectives, irreverent humor, and crazy capers, then you’ll love Kelly Oliver’s hilarious adventure.

I liked the overall story, but the protagonist is written as a bubble headed dumb hick trope. I was hoping not to run into that since she's a philosophy major working on her PhD, but it's there. Makes it hard to buy in to. Also, the narrator's inflections in her speech, and the weird emphasis or certain words and inserted pauses were annoying. Probably better in print than an audio book, but I'd still take away one star for the ignorant country girl ridiculousness.

not bad but cringey

Seems a little juvenile. I’m putting it down in the first chapter. I hate spending $$ on books that I can’t finish.

Young Adult Genre?

I struggled to finish this book. I think it is probably intended for a younger audience.

On my worst list!

The book starts out weird and the story just doesn’t seem to get going at all

The reader did not keep my attention

Who is naive. Doesn't have a university that she transfered in from? Wish I could get my money back, good thing it was only a few dollars.

I am sure a certain age group would like this but it dragged for me and was a bit predictable. If you are an avid mystery buff this doese not meet a high standard and not particularly enjoyable as a fluff reading. Audible has so many more excellent books. So much hype associated with this series glad I rad it. But can't recommend it.

A bit juvenile and predictable

Not my favorite

I would have given it a 3 overall if the 'F' word had been left out. I did not enjoy the Russian accents. They were to hard to understand. I did not appreciate the sex and drugs at the college level, it seemed very risky and irresponsible. I did enjoy the art and Jessia's dissertation part of the story.

The story was interesting enough. Kept me listening. I really like the narrator, thought they did a good job with accents and their voice has a nice smokey quality.

Love the narrator
