Publisher's summary

An emotional and hopeful debut that asks: Can first love survive 18 years, 11,000 miles and a lifetime of misunderstandings?

“How I loved this story... It has it all—an evocative setting, complicated characters and a tale that keeps you turning those pages. Super!” —Imogen Clark

Eighteen years ago, teenage Amy fled England, pregnant and heartbroken, to start over in New Zealand with her parents. Now Chris, the love she left behind, has walked into her beloved café by the beach and thrown her life into turmoil.

As far as Amy’s concerned, Chris chose to ignore the child she was carrying when they last met. She brought up their daughter alone and created a happy home for them both on the other side of the world. But with Chris suddenly back in her life, she can no longer ignore the past and begins to wonder what really happened all those years ago.

Old secrets and new revelations cast Amy’s world into doubt. What if this is her last chance at something truly meaningful? Can there really be a happy ending for everyone?

Critic reviews

“How I loved this story. That delicious angst of first love magnified beautifully by something misunderstood and, finally, comprehension and the chance to set things right. It has it all—an evocative setting, complicated characters and a tale that keeps you turning those pages. Super!”—Imogen Clark, bestselling author

A comforting read

It's like I was reading the story of my own life, but with an actual happy ending. I very much enjoyed this story and did not think it would parallel my life the way it did.

Main Character is Tedious

Amy, the main character in this book, seems horribly stuck in her teenage mindset, though she is now approaching middle age. Repeatedly throughout the book when she is presented with options that would indicate to most adults to reconsider her thinking, she stubbornly refuses to inwardly reflect or otherwise change her behavior. This is most of the book, until the last couple of chapters, when finally others in Amy's life tell her to stop making things up in her head and go consult the people who would know. This was as an infernally frustrating read.

Full of foul languages!

What a waste of time! Weak story lines and cursing all through. Not clean at all!
