About this listen

‘When it comes to the Wyrde, there is no such thing as harmless. Every single one of us is a walking disaster.’

Winter has come to Werth Towers, and brought a deal of trouble with it.

Not that any of it is the fault of Miss Gussie Werth. To be a one-woman catastrophe might be seen as a misfortune, but really, there can be no hope of a cure.

What with murderous Books on the rampage, Lady Maundevyle brewing plans for Christmas, and a couple of dragons on the loose, a quiet life is not likely to be had.

Still, in times of crisis, there is always Lord Felix. The disreputable old revenant might have a few odd ideas; but you’re at Werth Towers, now. The merely unusual comes as a matter of course.

Welcome to the strangest family in Regency England. Find out just what Gussie did next...

The Werth family's troubles continue.

Miss Gussie Werth is now a wyrde. Her aunt had suspected, and kept Gussie close to home. Her wyrde is unlike anything anyone has ever seen, and has the potential to reek havoc at any gathering . Lord Maundevyle, man and dragon, continue to frequent the Werth estates. The family book with the new book, is acting worse than ever. Gussie is determined to learn if there are more books like them out there.
Gussie with Lord and Lady Werth and Frosty in tow, head to the Maundevyle estate for Christmas, leaving Theo to keep an eye on the books. Lady Maundevyle gets her fondest wish for Christmas, it's not what she expected. The Werth's learn of the Maundevyle's book, the trouble it caused, and the Werth families involvement.
Meanwhile, Theo gets a visit from a much changed Mr Balemtine. They head to London with the new book, leaving Uncle Felix is charge. Both books go on the rampage leaving destruction in their paths.
The Werth family and Gussie in particular have a new mission. Looking for more of the books and destroying them. Gussie's aid at the request of Mr Balentine has gotten out. Others want her kind of help as well.

A fun story, great narration. Hoping the next 2 books make it to audio.
If you like Gail Carriger, you will likely enjoy the Werth family.
