About this listen

Banjo "Jo" Mitchell has a lot to drink about: he's 25, his boyfriend walked out, he's not paid the rent and Australia is voting on his right to marry. Overwhelmed by shame, every passing bus is a tempting opportunity for Jo to leave this life behind.

The only thing stopping him is a last glimmer of hope that things may get better, but is a glimmer enough?

A hilarious and touching new novel written and read by Daniel Cottier exploring mental health, community and queerness.

Real but life-affirming

I loved how this book was not afraid to take the reader into the full depths of despair and the dark thoughts of its protagonist Jo because doing so made Jo's journey out of these depths all the more amazing and wonderful. I listened to this book on a once-a-week commute and found myself yelling, "No! Don't do it!" and "Yes, you can do it, Jo!" and practically crying tears of joy at certain parts. I found myself looking forward to my commute so I could find out what would happen next. Highly recommend.
