About this listen

When Claire sees Hannah Wilson at an exclusive Manhattan hair salon, it's like a knife slicing through barely healed scars. It may have been 10 years since Claire last saw Hannah, but she has thought of her every day, and not in a good way. So Claire does what anyone would do in her position - she stalks her.

Hannah is now Mrs. Carter, living the charmed life that should have been Claire's. It's the life Claire used to have before Hannah came along and took it all away from her.

Back then, Claire was a happy teenager with porcelain skin and long blond wavy hair. Now she's an overweight, lazy drunk with hair the color of compost and skin to match. And that’s why when Hannah advertises for a housekeeper, Claire is confident she can apply and not be recognized - especially since she has time on her hands, revenge on her mind, and a talent for acting....

What better way to seek retribution - and redress - than from within the beautiful Mrs. Hannah Carter's own home?

But it's not just Claire who has secrets. Everyone in that house seems to have something to hide.

And now, there's no way out.

Ravishing Appetite for this plate of Suspense.

The story was so well crafted and left me on the edge of my seat throughout! I binge listened, trying to predict a totally unpredictable ending! This is my first introduction to the author and will not be the last! Her first-person voice is amazing; I had to keep looking over my shoulder to make sure she wasn't in the same room as me. This author knows how to connect with her readers. The Narrator was one of the best I've ever heard.

I would highly recommend this book!

Keeps you intrigued!

This story keeps you intrigued as to what will happen next. Twists, turns, paranoia, discoveries. Be sure you have time to listen because you won't want to stop...I could barely take breaks and couldn't wait to hear what happened next.

Painful few chapters but good ending

I hated the few first chapters. I almost wanted to stop because the main character was so revolting but I was on a plane with nothing else to read. But ones you bypass the pettiness and annoying ness of the first chapters, it starts to get pretty good. It is hard to tell how it was going to end, and even though I sorta figured it out half way through, but it was still quite enjoyable and thrilling. If you can withstand the most petty and whiny introduction, I think you’ll find the rest exciting.

mixed

While I LOVE the narrator's voice and could listen to her all day, it was definitely not right for this book. I kept hearing older people's voices and had to remind myself the main character is only 24. She sounded like a woman in her 40's. I don't remember how old April, the roommate, was supposed to be, but she consistently sounded like she was in her 60's. I felt like this distracted from the story. I liked the story, I found myself both excited and cringeing to find out what came next. Great read, but wish I had read it the old fashioned way, rather than sorting through the characters strange voices in my head.

Thrilling revenge story

This book was read by the narrator as a crazy unstable stalker. Claire in her mind that everything she did was justified to get her revenge. The story had twists that made you think who really is the master manipulator here? It’s crazy to think that someone would go to these lengths to get revenge and things are not always how you think they are.

Well-crafted simplicity.

There are some twists that some may find obvious, but the way the author presents the story is clever and keeps you interested. There is enough mystery to keep you wondering, but not in a pretentious way. I didn’t have high expectations, and some of it was a little questionable, but overall I enjoyed and listened to it quickly. However, the one issue was the narrator’s voice. As many are saying, she sounds much older than the main character, and despite a good performance, I kept picturing a much older woman—more like in her 50’s than a 24 year old.

GOOD READ!

This was absolutely a story that kept me on the edge of my seat! Great story, and I'd love to read more by this author. The narrator did a fantastic job and I would like to listen to more with her as the narrator.

Fresh! Stunning!

Thankfully not the same storylines that swirl
around today. Unexpected and real. Life staggers forward to a raw, believable ending.
