A classic cold case reopened - along with Pandora's box.
When 11-year-old Lucy Devlin disappeared on her way to school more than a decade ago, it became one of the most famous missing-child cases in history. The story turned reporter Clare Carlson into a media superstar overnight. Clare broke exclusive after exclusive. She had unprecedented access to the Devlin family as she wrote about the heartbreaking search for their young daughter. She later won a Pulitzer Prize for her extraordinary coverage of the case.
Now, Clare once again plunges back into this sensational story with new evidence, new victims, and new suspects - too many suspects. Everyone from members of a motorcycle gang to a prominent politician running for a US Senate seat seem to have secrets they’re hiding about what really might have happened to Lucy Devlin.
But Clare has her own secrets. In order to untangle the truth about Lucy Devlin, she must finally confront her own torturous past.

Despite that, I listened to this entire book. The mystery of whatever happened to Lucy Devlin was a good one, even with a cringe-worthy protagonist.
The narrator had a very pleasant voice but she didn't do enough to distinguish her voices. When two women were speaking (which happened often), I had to stop the book several times to figure out who was talking. For a nearly nine hour book, that got bothersome. Additionally, this book was also told from Clare's POV, but it was sometimes hard to tell when Clare was thinking and when she was speaking.
This was an interesting listen and I really liked how it played against the background of a New York City television station. I've noped out of book two though.
Hated Clare. No book two for me.

What would a reporter do for a story? This book takes the listener behind the scenes into news reporting kidnapping, murder, and politics. The story twists and turns with so many coincidences that it makes you wonder if it is at all possible. It is an interesting plot. The female protagonist sometimes is likable, and at other times make you want to shake some sense into her.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Lili Dubuque is entertaining.

This reader usually avoids missing children stories, but intrigued by the journalistic approach, this time requested, and was freely gifted a complimentary copy of Yesterday's News, by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. It proved to be a book which totally involved and captivated the immagination, with well drawn characterisation, unexpected revelations and coincidences which had to be something more. As this cleverly presented tale unfolds, and the field of discovery widens, it becomes clear that little is as it had seemed all those years before.
Rarely do those much proclaimed twists and turns surprise this reader, but these did, and although, as a whole, the story was improbable, it was so artfully written that it nevertheless carried through with a feeling of confused reality. This was ably reinforced by narrator, Lily Dubuque, whose clear and pleasant voice reads with good intonation and understanding of the text, and with gently defined character voices
My thanks to the rights holder. This mystery, told without undue hystrionics, was complelling and and hard to put down. There are, of course, minor flaws but nothing to stop the enjoyment of the story, it's starling revelations through to the equally ambiguous ending. A great read, highly recommended.
This has always been my story.

Clare Carlson is an interesting character and Lili Dubuque seems a very appropriate narrator to perform this first person story. My only complaint about her performance is that she doesn't make enough destinction between character voices and it's sometimes difficult to determine who is speaking during dialog. Overall, I can recommend giving this a listen.
