About this listen

Hagen Wylie has it all figured out. He's going to live in his hometown, be everybody's friend, explore new relationships, and rebuild his life after the horrors of war. No muss, no fuss is the plan. He's well on his way - until he finds out his first love has come home too. Hagen says it's no big deal, but a chance encounter with Mitch Thayer's two cute sons puts him directly in the path of the only guy he's never gotten out of his head.

Mitch returned for three reasons: to raise his sons where he grew up, to move his furniture business and encourage it to thrive, and to win Hagen back. Years away made it perfectly clear the young man he loved in high school is the only one for him. The problem? He left town and they have not talked since.

If Hagen's going to trust him again, Mitch needs to show him how he's grown up and isn't going to let go. They could have a new chance at love...but Hagen is insistent he's not reviving a relationship with Mitch. Then again, you never know.

Loved their story

Great story about love, forgiveness and second changes. Even Mitch's children were adorable in how they instantly loved and accepted Hagan in their lives.

Second Chance at Love -- Sigh

I loved this book. A second chance at love. Hagen Wylie was broken by his first love, football star Mitch Thayer. After a stint in the army, posting in Afghanistan, and capture and torture by the enemy, he has come back to his small hometown to pick up the pieces of his life. Mitch Thayer has come back, too. A great read with all the feels and of course, Greg Tremblay! Greg Tremblay brings the characters and their emotions to life. Well worth a credit.

Mary Calmes does it again

I almost did not get this - You would think I would know better than to listen to the reviews when its one of my favorite authors paired with a favorite reader - This is a fabulous look into the life of a guy struggling to overcome the trauma of his past war experiences We have a ex Marine who has been through hell and come out on the other side - very shaky but working on living again - to all the readers who thought he was weak or defenseless did not see what Mary Calmes was showing us that this is a guy who is still suffering but working hard to figure out what he needs . He does not see that he is a nice guy everyone likes to hang out with because he is too busy just hanging on. It is easier to just go along than to fight more minor battles .Ash is necessary to the story to provide conflict and a choice for Hagen to hide. But from the beginning Hagen knows he is not his forever guy. He also knows he found his person years ago but due to being so young and important career issues he did not get to keep him.He constantly let Ash know he was not ever going to be more than a hook up or a friend Ash just did not want to hear it. Mitch may come on strong but that is first who he is and he knows and loves Hagen and understands pushing him is what he needs to move forward. . -Ash is a nice guy but come on he is self center and never really see Hagen beyond someone that is not a yes man.He really has no clue who Hagen is or that he still suffering PTSD. This is not real love. I love the PTSD was dealt with we see the results of it with out long winded explanations I think PTSD shows itself in many ways and it is a very private problem that Hagen just needs people to understand he has changed and it affects him and he is working on getting over it - Mitch gets this - For those who thought Mitch should have groveled more Please - that is not what he or Hagen needed - Hagen knew he was sincere and felt bad and even recognized they were so young and Mitch could not have both the love and the career and lets face it a Pro football would be a lot to ask a young man to give up - And we see that he never got over Hagen and knew it
I loved this story

Not one of my favorite Mary Calmes books

All Hagen did throughout the book was argue with his lovers. When Mitch came into the picture I wasn't fond of him at ALL, he was overly confident and arrogant and didn't come close to grueling enough for me to have Hagen's forgiveness. 🤨 This story had much potential but it fell short for me, I would liked to hear more of Hagen's struggle with PTS and his story when he was captured. Not one of my favorite reads by Mary Calmes.

Sweet

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Normally I LOVE Mary Calmes stories... Especially when they are read by Greg Tremblay. However, I have to say the beginning of this story was very hard for me to follow. The whole bouncing back in time then forward again... I got sort of lost in what was happening then and what was happening now (especially when it came to Ash - although I did figure it out as the story commenced).

I do love a good second chance story and how these two came together. The fact that the past pain wasn't quickly pushed aside was nice. Too often you see characters saying something was just soul crushing, but they quickly get over it... not in this story. I really appreciated it.

I do wish he'd have called Ash out a bit more at the end too. It felt like a big moment, but just sort of swept under the rug.

All in all another good story with a great narration coupled with it.
