Publisher's summary

This story is a seasonal treat, a modern, lyrical retelling of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol.

The audiobook is specially designed for families to share during the holiday season, or for young, competent listeners to try for themselves. This is a beautiful audiobook to treasure.

Eb is a spoiled child who really is not one for caring, and he certainly hates sharing. He is watched over by a very special guardian - the family’s ancient longcase clock, who is bestowed with magic. His name is Grandfather Time.

On Christmas Eve, Grandfather Time decides he must teach the boy a lesson. So he calls upon his friends, the Ghosts of Past, Present, and Future, and with lessons to learn, he brings forth the first tutor - a little, golden red King Charles spaniel, called Miss Ruby Heart.

Will this unlikely pair be able to teach the boy the error of his ways? Or will he be doomed to be a scruffy, lonely teenager stuck forever in his own little world?

Christmas poem for kids.

A new Christmas Carol is a poem geared to kids about sharing and friendship. Young Ebenezer wants more presents and does not want to share with others. He is visited by Grandfather Time who brings him to the past, present and future. Ebenezer decides to try to change. This is a nice story for children. It emphasizes playing outside and with others, not using electronic games and computer. The story is nicely read by the narrator.

Excellent holiday story for everyone.

This was perfect. I'll be listening to this again every year with my grandchildren. So sweet and the narration was excellent. I would absolutely recommend this book!

Cautionary tale in meter and rhyme

A bit of a morality play in the key of Dickens. I wasn’t crazy about it until I got to the ghost of X-Box future. That was the payoff for me. Fun little poem, but I am doubtful that any amount of altruistic moralism will have any lasting effect. The picture of the greasy aged Bessemer dwelling gamer was truly as horrifying as any ghoul Dickens could have imagined. That picture alone could drive home the illustration as a cautionary tale perhaps.

Narrator told it well.

Great short poem for Young Ebenezer

The family really enjoyed this short poem style story. This story is told in a poem just like "The Night Before Christmas". And even sounds like that story at times.
I know that a lot of people claim family friendly these days but this one really is. I don't share much of what I listen to with the family but had no hesitation with this one.

Perfect Christmas carol for kids.

This was a great book to share with my granddaughter. Not only did she enjoy it, but also learned a lesson in giving and sharing. The narration is well done complete with sound effects to hold a child's interest. I was given a free copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily decided to leave this review.

A Christmas Carol retold

The short tale of a young Ebenezer that is perfect for young or old.

Instead of a look at his at his life from adulthood until after his death, this telling deals his younger days. What could happen when a caring and sharing youngster becomes self centered and selfish.

The author, Rose English, did a nice job of telling the tale in a way that is very relatable to younger kids.

The narration was very well done. I would not hesitate to listen to more of Bill Schafer’s performances.

A different angle on the famous story

This story, actually poem, takes pains to make itself unnecessarily modern with conspicuous references to electronic entertainment. The core though is thoughtful and meaningful; it's the kid version of the lessons in The Christmas Carol: kindness, charity, community, and thankfulness. I especially appreciated their interesting version of the spirit of Christmas future. Rather than death, Ebenezer is shown visions of himself as a lonely sad teenager. I think this was the best part. Death is too unrelatable for kids but everyone knows the misery of being sad and alone.

A great little Christmas Tale

A great little reimagining and modernization of a classic. Well narrated and entertaining for kids and the family. Rose English did a great job reimagining the tale and telling it in a way that still captures all of the spirits, but in a way, kids can easily digest now and days. While this isn't particularly long, I do think it is a perfect thing to play while driving your kids to school or when you need a few minutes in a day, knowing your kids will be entertained.

Young Ebenezer: A New Christmas Carol

This was a beautiful story and a treasure. The story rhymed which I loved and was very well-written by Rose English and flawlessly performed by Bill Schafer. It was perfect for children of all ages, even those young at heart and a Christmas treat as well. This would be perfect to add to a Christmas Eve playlist for the family.
