About this listen

The journey back to faith is one tale many LGBTQ people don't live to tell. This girl did.

Inspired by a true story.

Just in high school, Jenny is dating a popular football player when she falls in love with a girl from math class.

The child of a minister and suffering the impact of her family's divorce and alcoholism, these new feelings further complicate an already difficult adolescence.

Jenny turns to alcohol and promiscuity for relief - until she has exhausted the hope that living that way might heal any of her pain. She has an epiphany: What if it's possible to be a Queer woman, to love God with all her heart, and seek a life partner who loves God too? What if this is possible, even in a world that insists it isn't?

Will she ever find a place where all of her broken pieces belong?

A novel inspired by the life of a young girl who loved God more than anything else, and abused alcohol to survive in a world that told her she wasn't allowed to. A story that encourages the lsitener to courageously reflect on what is true of God and for self within their own heart.

Jen courageously invites us in to witness her journey through evolving identities - the daughter of a minister, an alcoholic, and a queer woman (before Ellen came out!). Even if you are none of these things, Jen writes with a raw candor that will grip you from the first sentence, and you'll be amazed at how much you can find your heart and experience in her life's details.

Big hug!

Growing up as a teen in the 80’s was not easy. We learned a lot of the bad behaviors and opinions from our parents. We were the first generation to start the change. Our children are making a difference. Jen’s story exhibits the change for the good with courage, bravery and self love. Also, still loving herself with bumps in the road even when she did not know it. Listening to her tell her own story made me want to jump in and hug her!! Loved it.

Poignant Story of Growing Up

A minister’s daughter finds herself in a family of alcoholics and religious bigotry. Not understanding that she is gay she lives in confusion and conflict. Parents divorce and they lose their church family and friends. She starts drinking at eight years old and continues to try to figure out life. Adulthood is no picnic and self destructive behaviors are killing her. A marvelous performance and story. Recommend.
