“These poems were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence. I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins. My freedom lives in these pages, and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness,” says Fox.

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

A gentle reminder for the days you feel light in this world, and for the days in which the sun rises a little slower. A gentle reminder for when your heart is full of hope and for when you are learning how to heal it. A gentle reminder for when you finally begin to trust in the goodness and for when you need the kind of words that hug your broken pieces back together. A gentle reminder for when growth hangs heavy in the air, for when you need to tuck your strength into your bones just to make it to tomorrow.

The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

Nothing Short of Perfection
This poetry book is a diamond in a field of gems. I'll be buying a hard copy very soon.

Vivid Listen
The poetry book starts with warnings about the content—self abuse, sexual assault, child abuse, and so on. I believe that including this message is helpful. The topics are difficult, but teens should have the right to decide for themselves if they would like to continue reading. Readers then follow the speaker’s journey from childhood up until the age of 19. The speaker (assumed to be the author) explains how her mother was abusive and some of the tragedies that occurred within her family. The speaker then explains how she was able to find herself and grow. Amanda Lovelace, the author, narrates her book for a little over an hour. I liked that she was able to narrate her own poetry because this was her story to tell. It would not have felt quite as impactful if someone else had narrated the poetry. Readers are given poetry about poetry, about empowerment, and about self realization. I came out of this listening with some favorite quotes that truly touched me—“Poetry showed me how to bleed without the need for blood.”/ “Some names will always be cursed.”/ “Words should heal—not burn.” I listened to the audio version of this poetry book, but I would encourage teens to also read the physical copy of this book. Some poetry’s power comes from how it was written on the page, and although the narration may still be powerful, just reading it may illicit more emotions.

Powerful, Moving, Triumph
The collection of poems begins with a warning about triggers that these poems might elicit. No doubt these words paint heavy pictures and blaring sounds of tragedy, loss, abuse and defeat. Yet amid the sorrow and pain the speaker, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, emerges stronger and more powerful than she imagined. She becomes her own prince and slays her dragons.

This is amazing
I lost my mom and can relate to some of the things in here. She’s been through a lot, and has a beautiful voice, especially for poetry. Absoulutely amazing. Would give it a billion stars if I could. Definitely worth it. Waiting to get the next book, the witch doesn’t burn in this one. Enjoy, I know you will!

Disappointing
I was very excited to read this book and see what it was all about. Unfortunately I did not find it entertaining, informative, or helpful. Poems to me are supposed to inspire people and get minds thinking, hearts feeling the words, and understanding the full extent of the authors pain or whatever they are trying to explain. I did not feel compelled to even finish this book it was so bad. I tried to push through just to see if I was being too judgmental or just plain dumb. I don’t recommend reading this book it is poorly written and sounds like a pity party rather than a poem. Sorry if anyone is offended by this review it is simply my opinion especially being a follower of God I didn’t appreciate her stating that God does not exist...that’s too far.
