Cycle Breakers & Money Makers

By: Mariela De La Mora | Leadership and Business Coach for Women of Color
  • Summary

  • Welcome to Cycle Breakers & Money Makers - a podcast for daughters of immigrants and WOC who are breaking cycles in their family by going places no one before them has gone. Join me, Mariela De La Mora, as we dive deep into what our community needs to break free from operating in survival mode, to lead with confidence and make more money doing it. Each week, we will dive into business, mindset and leadership coaching that is focused on the lived experiences of First Gen. Because let's be real - daughters of immigrants need to be coached differently. As the eldest daughter of immigrants, I have personally broken cycles and helped over 100 women do the same. I left a 16 year career as a Marketing Executive where I was the only WOC in the space, to now coaching 6-7 figure CEOs and high ranking women at organizations like Google, Microsoft and the United Nations. Using the tools I teach, I've since built close to a million-dollar business as a single mom. What would the world be like if more First Gen women lived life at the top of Maslows hierarchy of needs? With each episode, I hope to move closer to that reality. We’ll cover topics that will help you become an unstoppable, badass, money-making leader who knows her worth and has the receipts to show for it.

  • 56: From 0% to 80% retention and highest ever recurring revenue: Kierra's success in Reclamation
    Jan 31 2025

When my client Kierra joined Reclamation, she was exhausted from trying to fit into traditional coaching spaces that didn’t understand her business model as a marketing agency owner.

Despite her years of marketing experience, she found herself questioning everything — frustrated by declining sales, messaging that wasn’t landing, and an offer that wasn’t converting. But she turned it all around inside the program.

In this episode, Kierra shares her unfiltered journey inside Reclamation, including:

🛑 Why she almost didn't join because she isn’t First Gen and wasn’t looking for a mindset or feelings-heavy program—but realized Reclamation was *also* the ONE room where a marketer could get true thought partnership from another marketer, not cookie-cutter strategies

💡 How she pivoted her business model and went from 0% client retention to 80% retention

💰 The shift that led to five-figure clients and her highest-ever recurring monthly revenue

🎯 The moment she realized she was arguing with how her audience buys—and the change that turned everything around

🤝 Why finding the right community and a true Mastermind accelerated her growth in ways she never expected

This is for you if you’ve ever felt like you’re second-guessing your own vision. Kierra’s story will show you what’s possible when you stop trying to fit into someone else’s strategy and start building from your own genius.

  • 55. Why off-the-shelf marketing strategies fail (and what to do instead) w/ Kierra Conover
    Jan 31 2025

If you’ve ever joined a coaching program hoping to borrow your coach’s strategy—only to feel frustrated when it didn’t work for you—this episode is for you.

I’m joined by my Reclamation client Kierra Conover, who breaks down the biggest misconceptions about marketing strategy, why cookie-cutter approaches fail, and how true strategy should be a byproduct of your own business data—not someone else’s success formula.

Kierra is the founder of KLC the Studio, a boutique marketing agency that helps service providers, coaches, and product brands sell their offers with data-backed messaging.

With over seven years of experience leading billion-dollar campaigns for brands like Banana Republic and The Gap, managing campaigns featuring Gwyneth Paltrow and Kanye West, Kierra knows firsthand why so many marketing strategies feel clunky—and why strategy should actually bring you peace.

Kierra also shares her journey from corporate marketing to entrepreneurship and how she overcame systemic challenges as a black woman in the fashion industry. From merchandising Safeway’s holiday displays with her mom (when she was a kid) to managing campaigns for celebrities, she's had an eye for branding since the start.

In this episode, we break down:

🔥 The #1 reason most marketing strategies fail (and why they weren’t actually strategies to begin with)

📊 How data (both hard numbers and what your audience tells you) should shape your marketing

🚀 Why the same ideal client buys different offers in completely different ways

⚡ The difference between coaching and consulting—and why hiring the wrong kind of support will keep you stuck

💡 How Kierra pivoted her own business model while in Reclamation to achieve 80% client retention and land clients with five-figure annual value!

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing everything “right” but still not seeing the results, this episode will be the clarity you need.

  • 54. Breaking free from religious & relationship trauma through self care w/ Natalia Lopez-Thismon
    Oct 23 2024

Private coaching is now open, with expanded options from 3-6 months: Apply here to schedule your call.

In this episode, I'm joined by my private client Natalia López-Thismón. Trigger warning for those of you who have experienced emotional abuse either in a relationship or have experienced religious trauma.

Natalia is a life coach, women's circle, and rites of passage facilitator dedicated to helping Latinas who feel stuck in lives they don’t want regain the radical self-trust to rewrite their stories, by developing the skill of self trust.

Her journey with self-care began during her divorce in 2015 when she discovered the power of caring for herself—a practice she had rarely seen modeled by the women around her due to cultural norms that discourage women from prioritizing their own needs.

As the eldest daughter in a Puerto Rican and Venezuelan family, Natalia is committed to breaking this cycle and creating new narratives for herself and others. She views self-care as a radical act of healing and the first step toward developing self trust.

In this episode, Natalia shares her personal story of navigating a strict upbringing, how Marianismo impacts women's self trust, leaving an abusive marriage and ultimately her church.

And it all started with self care, which allowed Natalia to develop the self trust needed to rewrite her story one decision at a time - a process she now walks her clients through.

But we're not talking bubble baths and massages. Natalia illustrates how self-care is more about taking care of yourself starting from your most basic needs vs the commercialized version we often get sold.
