Our guest speaker, Shauna Rowe, is a registered dietitian nutritionist. Her Jamaican heritage and her mother's passion for cooking sparked her love for nutrition. With a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Studies from Howard University, Shauna has dedicated her career to empowering women, birthing people and their support circles through informed nutritional choices. We’re grateful to have her with us today. Shauna is the founder of Dixon Dietetics, LLC, named in honor of her late mother, Joyce Dixon—who lovingly nurtured mothers and babies in her home daycare. Shauna's mission aligns beautifully with FOZA's commitment to maternal mental wellness, making her insights invaluable to our birthing community and those of us caring for them. In this podcast, we’re diving into “The Power of Nutrition During Your Perinatal and Postpartum Journey” If you are pregnant or planning to be or you know someone who is, then you are in a very good place to receive some expert information on nutrition as well as dispelling some widespread myths. Some Highlights we’ll cover:

This is Episode 37, titled Supporting New Moms – Tips for Partners and Caregivers

We here at FOZA believe there can never be too much information available to support pregnant people and their support systems. Yes there is a ton of information available, but as we learned at a recent community event, not all mothers get all of the information that may be helpful to them. And that’s why we have to be relentless in sharing valuable information.

Moving along…FOZA is sending a shout-out to Fuller Doulas, MamaBirthdServices, NK-The Whole Mom and VelaHaven These maternal health workers hosted an Amazing Community Baby Shower Event @ the Huntington Community Center on September 21st in Bowie MD. and very special thanks to Postpartum Support International MaryLand Chapter, and the many other vendors, speaker and professionals who supported this awesome event, for over a hundred attendees of moms and family who came out. We invite you to visit the FOZA site for an IG link to view some of the festivities. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DAg-up8JZFe/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

#FOZA4PPDAwareness - Welcome FOZA Fans and thank you for joining in on a NEW FOZA PODCAST. www.FOZAInc.org/podcasts

This is Episode 36, titled Emotional Support – The Benefits for Maternal Mental Wellness

This episode is dedicated to National Maternal Suicide Awareness Week, Sept 9 through 13, and for the entire month of September and Suicide Awareness and Prevention.

I invite you to add to what you hear, discuss what you hear, and share what you believe is beneficial. Awareness is one of our core missions, and we know there are many aspects involved, so even if you know every point that's being made in the podcast, please keep sharing. Perhaps you will touch someone who may not be as well-informed as you are.

    Highlights:

    • Why she may not ask for or accept help
    • She may feel as if she is burdening others
    • She may want to prove her independence
    • She may feel embarrassed or ashamed
    • She may have had past negative experiences
    • She may even be unsure of exactly what help she needs or where to look and she want to avoid appearing to be ignorant about a topic we’ve been programmed to believe is “natural”
    • She may feel she should know instinctively how to care for her baby, and she feels “less-than,” which can exacerbate her feelings of being overwhelmed.

The ACTIONS you can take to help build her trust
