• You Stole my Name, my Logo, and my Idea
    Oct 8 2024

Welcome to episode one of our brand-new podcast! In this debut episode, we share the bizarre way we met online, and how this is our first conversation ever, apart from exchanging 1-minute-long voice notes on Instagram.

We also debate awful podcast names which sounded great at 4 o clock in the morning, and along the way, chat about our shared love for tech, drums, and accidentally finding each other online like two poundland detectives. Oh, and we make fun of terrible licence plates. Thanks for tuning in—well, Grandma, we mean you!

In Episode two of the “We Still Don’t Have a Name” podcast, we dive into our chaotic lives as musicians. From flying to gigs where they bake you cakes (yes, that happened) to gigs that never happened because someone forgot we existed (yes, that also happened).

We also talk about playing to a single dog at a wedding, gigging while sick, and how 12 people in a 100-seat venue really makes you question life choices. Thanks to all five listeners (hi, Mom)! Hit us up with questions or just text us… you probably have our number!

In episode 3 of the “We Finally Have a Name” podcast, now officially called “My Plan Is…” (dot dot dot)!

Meanwhile, Harry Y spent the day casually paddleboarding, whilst Harry Weston-C tried to break the sound barrier in a Honda Jazz doing 65 in second gear.

If you’re into tales of train delays, broken iPads, and what happens when freelancers attempt to stay organized, this is the episode for you!

  • Udu You Think You Are?
    Oct 8 2024

Episode 4 see’s us discussing the ever-present feeling that one phone call can change your life, and how day to day it’s important to try, where we can, to embrace our creative journey, however non-linear it may seem. The process can teach you so much and you never know how different, totally unrelated experiences will come in handy in the future.

It’s in this episode too that we explore experience itself, working with people who have far more of it than you do, and how that can be so valuable when it comes to catapulting your progress in whatever you’re trying to achieve.

There’s also some strange experimenting with unusual musical instruments, hence the title of the episode… get it?

  • The Flies Have Moved In and So Have We
    Oct 8 2024

This episode, we discuss how social media can be super effective when trying to your your diary with more gigs, even if you don’t have much of a following.

We also touch upon the crazy variety that we have as freelancing creatives, from Nuneaton to Madrid and New York to Coventry, it definitely keeps things interesting.

One of the main takeaways from our chat today is that you don’t have to have everything polished and perfect to put it out there. Sharing our less-than-perfect practice sessions and very much ‘live’ performances has helped us to embrace the imperfections and be more open with sharing my progress rather than waiting for a perfection that we’ll never achieve.

Lastly, we discuss some of the difficulties of managing finances when sometimes you wait a long time to be paid, or have unexpected bills pile up out of the blue.

  • What Else Can’t You Do?
    Oct 8 2024

In Episode 6 of ‘My Plan Is’ we discuss the realities life as a freelance musician. Kicking off with a tale of a Wolverhampton man and his underwhelming equipment… and he still charged me!

After that incredible regalement, we shift quickly to the far more useful discussion of the nightmare of unexpectedly tax bills and the importance of planning ahead.

We also chat about our efforts to build passive income. About how a small portfolio of stock images is very slowly generating daily earnings. While platforms like Etsy to sell prints and flipping musical gear for profit help balance out the ups and downs of not having a ‘real’ job.

We open up about the emotional toll that the industry can take, through periods of feeling stuck and unsure of what to do next, breaking goals into smaller, more manageable tasks, and wrap up with a reminder that making progress as a freelancer often means celebrating small wins, whilst keeping an eye on the bigger picture.
