Inspiring your audience to enroll in private coaching isn’t at all like selling a gadget, clothing or makeup on Instagram.

Because coaching is intimate, pricey and hopefully long-term, your prospects need to TRUST YOU before they hire you.

Nurturing future ideal coaching clients is the #1 goal of all messaging, whether in podcast episodes, social posts or emails.

Emails are a strategic part of generosity marketing, which is about creating content that relates, entertains, educates and inspires your most ideal prospects to follow you and then some, to hire you.

But no single message is a one-hit-wonder. The trust building process is coordinated and meant to take time.

You will benefit from a slower sales arc because it attracts clients who are pre-sold to work with YOU, will commit to the process and won’t regret the investment.

Here's a teaser of what's in store in this teaching episode with ACC Mentor Coach, Laurie Cameron — the best coach I've ever experienced!

What do you think, Laurie, is a single word that describes the best coaching sessions with clients?

    Laurie Cameron:

I think FOCUSED is a good word — because you know … there's purpose, there's meaning, there's safety — all of that. And yet, if I were to pick one, it would be focused — not just focused on what the client wants to take away, but really focused on the client. Fully focused on the client for the entire session because coaching is client-driven.

    Rhonda Hess:

It also means that it has an aim.

Do you ever have performance anxiety during coaching sessions?

If you’re a new coach, that’s totally normal. With mindfulness and experience that feeling diminishes.

In my early days, I was so anxious about delivering value that I over-delivered. I felt drained instead of energized by sessions.

That’s a red flag indicating something is off and needs attention.

It took me a while to realize that being in a performative state — trying so hard to coach well — my clients weren’t relaxing into coaching and getting enough value.

It’s a circular problem. To be themselves and access their truth in sessions, coaching clients need to feel safe in your presence.

Cultivating an atmosphere of safety begins well BEFORE they hire you. It’s in your messaging and marketing. It’s on your website and in your social posts.

    It’s about connection not performance.

Let’s talk about ways to cultivate trust from day 1 in your coaching business.

A coach I’m mentoring just doubled her prices ...

and quickly enrolled a new client at that new price.

Did she have to push and convince that new client to hire her? No.

She only needed to decide that from now on her services are worth more and stand behind her pricing.

It does take courage. But it’s a decision, that once you make it, you’ll never look back. And, you can increase your prices again.

She used to have to invest twice as much energy to earn that new price.

Before, she would have needed to find, enroll and work with 50 clients each year to meet her financial goals. Now she only needs to find, enroll and work with 25 clients for the same income.

Imagine what that means to her life.

This happens all the time. A coach decides to value their time highly and suddenly so do their clients.

This isn’t about gouging clients. It’s about having a sustainable coaching business without spreading yourself too thin.

Two of my VIP clients were having trouble with their messaging.

One was not getting engagements from her posts or enough downloads of her podcast. Not enough people in her audience were:

    · going to her website

    · taking actions to get on her list

    · filling out her application, and

    · grabbing a Discovery Call with her, so she could enroll them.

The other coach was struggling to write blog articles. His blogs were coming off stiff. They were full of cliché topics and thoughts. He was writing to a generic audience even though he had targeted a narrow group.

Neither of these coaches were relating enough to their audience.

Both of these coaches were not enough in touch with their specific target audience.

They were talking like a coach, which was coming off bland.

So, I showed them how to create an Avatar …

In your coaching business, you know you’ve found the sweet spot when you:

    · reliably earn well

    · by offering services you enjoy to client’s you enjoy

    · and you’re in high demand.

You’re well known and respected in your space.

Being in the sweet spot of your coaching business is fulfilling, fun and profitable. Working with ideal clients makes your heart sing.

Coaching in and of itself is not the sweet spot in your business. I’m referring to something more specialized and discovered over time.

It is the overlap of these 3 factors:

    1. You STAND OUT in the crowd by doing what you are the best at.

    2. You are growing expertise.

    3. Your audience is excited to invest in your offer because it hits the mark for them.

This is niching at its best. I’ve found that sweet spot you can have it too.

Let’s talk about how you get there.

How do people make buying decisions? Is it always about price?

If you’re in the grocery store and your primary goal is to save on groceries then you will look at the price of each similar product and choose the least expensive.

Someone else with different priorities will read the label to see what is in the product and choose that way. Still, others will be attracted by packaging or brand.

The same will be true of your coaching prospects:

    · Some are price conscious.

    · Some take cues from how you show up in the world and make decisions based on their intuition or gut.

    · Some will compare all possible service providers and make their decision analytically.

The question becomes — WHO do you want to attract? The person who decides everything by price or the person who is guided by a more holistic decision?

I want to work with people who fit me and who feel I and my program are a good fit for them. My goal is to attract my ideal clients.

    What about you?

Are you worried your mistakes in life hurt your credibility as a coach?

I get that — it’s certainly a concern I had that held me back.

Most of my VIP clients share early on in our work together the fear that their failures in life will turn away potential coaching clients.

There’s a feeling you need to be perfect, right?

And, 15 years or more ago, that might have been somewhat true in business.

But, thank you Brene Brown, vulnerability and truth telling is attractive and also makes life easier.

In Episode 328, where I interviewed Leslie K. Wang about her successes with attracting coaching clients, she mentioned how important it is to be a 3-dimensional person when posting online or in content, such as a podcast.

I agree. Being real helps you attract your most ideal clients.

So, why not actually leverage your personal story into your coaching niche? Reveal the many pitfalls that lead you to where you are now.

Let’s dig into how your personal story works in your favor.
