Dana Day is the Owner of Dana Build and Design in Tulsa. She’s an incredible person who is very passionate about what she does and that is evidenced throughout her 20 plus year career including being selected to appear in a series on HGTV, winning numerous accolades and more. I want to preface this episode by letting you know that this will be a two-part episode. During this visit, she’ll share insight into what led up to her changing careers and jumping into this industry; what she enjoys about it (hint: it has to do with the challenges), and the stigma of being a female in a male dominated business. However, she has also a purpose that is also very important to her and is looking to share it with others. It involves her sister, Leslie, committing suicide. She will share a little about this at the end of the podcast and then will go into more depth in part two of this interview. March is National Developmental Disabilities Month and to raise awareness of this, we are visiting with Jeanette O’Hara, Founder and Director of Will’s House. Jeanette and her husband, Brad, have partnered to create a support system for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities who need support, encouragement and/or a break from the demands of parenting a child/children with developmental disabilities.

It was early-on in her life that she made a significant change in pivoting herself from the formal degree and training she received as a chiropractor into entrepreneurship. Early in her career, Dawn Starr thought she had the perfect job until one day her daughter’s daycare called and told her that her daughter was sick and needed to be picked up. Dawn felt helpless because she wasn’t able to leave work, and neither was her husband, or any of the others she called. Although she enjoyed that job, she remembers praying that day for an alternative that allowed more flexibility so she could spend time with her daughter.

At the time, she was selling Mary Kay cosmetics as a side-hustle because she was a big fan of the products. Fast-forward to today when she is a multi-million dollar sales consultant for Mary Kay and leads a team of women who want to grow their own businesses.

During our visit she’ll share more about stepping out of her comfort zone as an introvert and her success in sales, how many pink Cadillacs she has earned and who she ultimately credits her success.
