  • S2 Ep125: LIVE LIFE BETTER - Hair Loss & Alopecia Areata Awareness Month
    Sep 19 2024
In this episode of LIVE LIFE BETTER, RadioStPete.com host Nanette Wiser digs into the issue of hair loss, its causes and treatments for men and women during September's Alopecia Areata Awareness Month. We asked an expert, Simone Durant - the owner and operator of The Hair Dive: Hair Replacement and Restoration Center who has first-hand experience with alopecia. "At The Hair Dive, men and women who are facing hair loss & thinning are guaranteed a personalized and customized approach to their challenges. Together, we can revitalize their confidence and achieve real, long-term hair restoration solutions," says Durant, who is also actively involved in working with veterans and several VA hospitals to help with hair loss due to injury or PTSD. https://www.thehairdive.com/veterans

There are various reasons you could be losing your hair -genetics, certain illnesses or conditions, hormonal changes, medications, and stress are among many factors that can cause this issue, known clinically as alopecia. For women, hair loss can occur because of chemicals hair products, hair styles, nutritional deficiences, hormonal changes during menopause, stress, chemotherapy, even bariatric surgery. Most hair loss in men is caused by androgenetic alopecia or male pattern hair loss. This type is genetic—passed from parent to child—and progresses gradually and is linked to the activity of the androgen receptor (AR) gene, up to 50% of male adults experience some form of this by age 50. Diet, stress, aging, smoking and nutrition are also contributing factors.

  • S2 Ep125: Sunshine Sisters w/Karen Carmichael: Brandy Stark
    Sep 19 2024
As an educator, Brandy Stark has spent a lifetime studying the shifting dynamics of human culture. She teaches about the pride of the ancient world, the marvels of the Middle Ages, and the wildly shifting ways of modern life.

It is her passion for these subjects that inspires her as an artist. This enthusiasm is expressed through wrapped wire metal sculptures which host moments of time, personal energies and emotive states. These works become mediums for dialogue. Her award winning photography is designed to make familiar objects exotic and beautiful. The camera is used to exaggerate the image’s shape, form, light and texture. To keep the soul of the photograph intact, few digital alterations are utilized. Each photograph is printed in an enlarged format to allow the viewer closer access to the subject. Though the subjects seem readily apparent, the true focus is subtle. It can be the refraction of light on the surface of water, the abstracted shapes produced by a reclining animal, or the play of shadow across a unique surface. The award winning Metal Myths series evolved from a sculpture class that she took as an undergraduate. These works are designed as a way to attract a new generation of art lovers. The goal is to present elements of fantasy and imagination manifested through modern media to the audience. Additionally, these pieces represent a form of interconnections: each wire is unique on its own but intertwined with the others so it becomes part of the comprehensive whole. Stark has a studio in ArtLofts above the Florida Art Gallery.
