Lori Burkart Frank interviews Kristie Laine, Executive Director of Brunswick Village. Kristie is a lifelong resident in the area, growing up off the grid outside of Camptonville. Kristie and her staff create a sense of family for residents of Brunswick Village Senior Living and Memory Care and their families. Her career is the perfect place for her to meet her goal of making people smile.

Mike started his Fire Service commitment in 1982 as a volunteer firefighter, finding a home and a career with the Gold Flat Fire District (later Nevada County Consolidated) in 1985. Having grown up literally on the South Yuba River, Mike quickly gravitated toward river and rope rescue, first studying and later teaching all over California.

In 2008 Mike switched things up and took a Crew Captain position with CalFire running inmate fire crews, first in Fort Bragg, then here at Washington Ridge Camp, retiring in 2017.

Mike became the Volunteer Fire Chief for his hometown of Washington in 2004, and continues to serve in that role.

He and his wife of 36 years, Kim, have two sons, Colin 20 who is following his father’s footsteps as a USFS Firefighter, and Branden 18 who is building a career in the music industry.

Paul Cummings interviews Alex Keeble-Toll. She is a Senior Admin Analyst with the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services. Alex has two graduate degrees one in sociology and the other in science, Alex’ expertise lies at the nexus of people and the environment. She is specifically interested in identifying how to deploy complex information about risk to rural populations in California’s headwater communities. In her role at the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services she works with residents and leaders across the County to better understand the opportunities and constraints around pursuing wildfire mitigation actions from the individual to the landscape scale and then proactively identifies appropriate funding mechanisms to get the work done on the ground. Alex is also actively involved in the Nevada City Fire Safety Advisory Committee, and she is a mother and avid runner.

Helen has a passion for connecting people to their environment and bringing audiences new experiences through authentic expression in the air through aerial dance.
