  • It's Dark in Here!
    May 4 2022

As academics, it is important that we have a sense of mission and a set of core commitments that we stand on, but the truth of the matter is that sometimes standing on those commitments and walking out that mission can leave us in a dark, lonely place. There is a lot of time and hidden effort between deciding on the Work that we are compelled to do and seeing that Work blossom. In this episode, I give you some encouragement for the dark and lonely moments.

  • Let's Talk Soul Care
    Apr 20 2022
The end of the semester is near and we are all dragging ourselves toward the finish line. If you're feeling exhausted, I hope this episode will encourage you. At one point, self care started to feel like another set of tasks on my already-overwhelming to do list. While I believe in vacations, manicures, saying no, and all of the things that we talk about related to self care, I needed something deeper. For me, that was changing my mind a bit to think about soul care. In this episode, I share 4 keys to soul care that I have learned along the way: therapy, breathing, sleep, and prayer/meditation. If you are feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, I urge you to try just one of these things today. If you have other tips for soul care, please feel free to share them with us on Twitter and Instagram @soulfulacad! You can also use the hashtag #TheSoulfulAcademic. Today's scripture reference: 3 John 1:2 "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers." • What matters to me matters to God
    Apr 6 2022
My motto in prayer: Be grateful and be honest. When I look at the state of the world, I am grateful for the relative privilege that I experience. But sometimes I feel guilty about the problems in my life because they often feel quite trivial compared to what others face on a daily basis. In this episode, we talk about how God's love for us is big enough to attend to the serious issues of the world and specific enough to fix the most minute details of our lives. All we have to do is bring them to God in prayer. Scriptures in This Episode: Psalm 138 Matthew 10:30 --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thesoulfulacademic/support
