Think Fast: The 252nd Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

  • Summary

  • In this 252nd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this week’s episode, we start with corrections from last livestream, and a bit more about seed oils. Then: dry fasting. What are the cultural and biological precedents for abstaining from all food and drink for hours or days at a time? What religious traditions include dry fasting? Are their health benefits? What are autophagy, and metabolic water, and what do kangaroo rats and camels have to teach us? We tell our personal story of just having done a seven day dry fast, and remind Americans that, as a country, we just voted to Make America Healthy Again. Your health is in your hands, not those of the “experts.”

Yes! Fasting!

I have wondered how long it would take for these two incredibly insightful humans to discuss the absolute amazingness of fasting! Everything in American society pushes you to eat/consume constantly and I believe this along with the quality of food being consumed is what is making us all fat and sick. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I have been an intermittent faster for the last two years. Meaning I fast for a certain amount of time in a day only consuming black coffee and plain water. Then I feast and refuel, rinse, repeat. Being metabolically flexible is the most freeing thing a person can do in my opinion.
I often wonder why this isn’t being blasted from the mountaintops. Then I remember, oh, yeah, because you’re not consuming so of course this will never be mainstream. There’s nothing to buy. Nothing to sell. You just stop eating.
