  • Episode 332 - Buried Alive
    Jul 27 2025
This week’s episode goes six feet deep — literally. This week, we dig into the terrifying history and paranormal fallout of being buried alive. From 19th-century “safety coffins” with skylights and breathing tubes, to family members haunted by the images of their buried (or accidentally murdered?) loved ones — we look at what people once did to avoid the worst fate imaginable… and whether or not it worked. We learn about Timothy Clark Smith, who designed his own escapable coffin in Vermont; the tragic tale of Octavia Hatcher, who may have awoken in her coffin after a mysterious illness; and Julia “The Italian Bride” Petta, whose body was found eerily preserved six years after her burial — and whose ghost still wanders the cemetery in a white wedding gown. Plus, a listener story includes a chilling paranormal discovery: a girl buried alive in the desert, revealed by a haunting spirit. Whether it’s nightmares, bells ringing from beneath the ground, or brides turned ghostly guardians, this episode explores just how thin the line between life and death can be — and what lingers when we get it wrong. 🪦🔔 Books recommended: Whisper Man and Man Made of Smoke by Alex North Watch the video version here. • Encounters x291 - Urban Legends Experienced in Real Life
    Jul 24 2025
This week’s Encounters dives into the dark, strange, and often terrifying world of urban legends that turn out to be a little too real. La Llorona, BEK, Goat Man, The Devil’s Tree and Slender Man?! Are these just haunting tales passed around the campfire? What happens if they turn out to be real?! These listener stories might just prove that they are. We’re getting into: A nighttime visit to Red Ash Cemetery turns terrifying when a ghostly woman on all fours transforms into something... not quite human. A grandmother in Nepal encounters a black eyed kid — and nearly loses her life. A cursed tree with ties to a real serial killer might be responsible for a listener’s heartbreaking paranormal loss. A game of midnight hide-and-seek with Slender Man that reveals a ghost girl phasing through a fence. A listener sees their mother at their bedroom door… except she never got out of bed that night. Whether you’re chasing cryptid legends, playing paranormal games at 3 a.m., urban legends sometimes have roots in something very real — and very haunted. • Episode 331 - Axe Hollow Murders & Hauntings | Appalachian Lore
    Jul 20 2025
This week, we explore the legend of Axe Murder Hollow — the chilling tale of a jealousy crazed, axe-wielding farmer that has passed down through generations in Erie Pennsylvania, and spread through northern Appalachia. What began as a ghost story passed between teens in the 1940s has since become one of the state’s most infamous tales — blending true crime, folklore, hauntings, and ghostly revenge. We’ll get into the rumors and theories that sprung up about what haunts Axe Murder Hollow. From the tale of Billy the Butcher to a 1963 double homicide that might have cemented the Hollow’s deadly reputation. Plus: High school newspaper gossip columns (1940s Gossip Girl vibes) turned paranormal record-keepers, vanishing spirits, phantom footsteps, and a spectral man in white with a headlamp and a gun. It’s part haunted history, part local lore, and all chills. 🪓👻 Watch the video version here. Have ghost stories of your own? Featured Article: Venture into the Unknown and Unexplained with the Best Paranormal Podcasts

The paranormal genre is perfectly suited to podcasts, given how its ties to myths and legends are rooted in oral storytelling. In the same way that a campfire tale can give you goosebumps, the best paranormal podcasts are as much about performance and structure as the story itself. Some, like the gothic fiction of old, are purely imagined, while others offer a window into the unseen and unexplained pockets of our own reality.

"OH, just travel and move and be happy and more successful!"..... I'm so happy you can afford to move wherever and travel, and that it's so easy for you, you think everyone else can. Are you kidding me? Have you met a real person? Some people cant visit the other side of town, let alone move there. This was awful. What a terrible way to celebrate 200 episodes. Was very ignorant, and boring hearing the hosts' readings. So disappointing 😞
