Entangled Galaxy

Lt. Jade Mahelona idolizes her father, a Solar Defense Force admiral, and tries to follow in his footsteps. She excels in the Academy and is brilliant in hand-to-hand combat thanks in part to a rare ability to sense electric fields. Then an alien stargate knocks her career 500 light-years off course. Jade joins a rescue team's quest to save the remote alien colony. But her nanobiological team leader despises her, the cerebral alien scientist doesn't have a clue about humans, and the only other human on the team is a professor who thinks all soldiers are grunts.

When the cyborg Umlac threatens to enslave Earth, Lt. Jade Mahelona defeats him in a hard-fought duel. Now she stands to inherit his interstellar empire. But Umlac's inheritance comes with a catch. Her vassals are two-ton blobs who believe that if they kill her, they win her right to rule. And on top of that, Umlac's former master expects Jade to serve under him in Umlac's stead. Naturally, Jade avoids the cyborg kingdom. But Earth faces invasion by Umlac's brothers, and terrorists destroy Earth's only interstellar link to its allies.

Earth's top scientists are disappearing. And when Jade Mahelona learns why, she becomes a target, too. An invisible dark matter ship lurks in the Oort cloud, biding its time as it prepares to conquer Earth.
