The Song of the Ferryman

Told by the stranger Ferryman, the tales follow the fortunes of a family destined to live through that most terrible of times, the rise of one civilization and the fall of another. Before Rome became an empire, Caesar looked north, to the Gauls, eying their lands and wealth hungrily. This book begins with the escape of the slave, Gallin, from the destruction of Spartacus and his journey home to his ancestral lands. But it is long before he finds his place within his tribe again.

Book two of the epic saga set at the time of Caesar's conquest of Gaul continues with Ferryman and Devin struggling to finish the repairs of their boat, and in the tales themselves, as the Veneti contend with the aftermath of their battle against the Curiosolites. It seems as if the warriors of the Fiarmar, with the help of the stranger Dorhos the Atrebatian, have won a hard-fought peace against their neighbours.

The year is 56BC. The Veneti are gone, betrayed by the wind, and Devin too is cast adrift, his refuge betrayed to the authorities. He and Ferryman struggle to escape while the survivors of the Veneti strive to find some meaning in their defeat

54BC. Caesar comes to Britain again, better equiped, better prepared, better informed. But alongside the wild hordes of Britons waiting for him, and the apocalyptic weather of their windswept islands, are a force of warriors from across the Channel in Gaul, the remants of the Veneti, the famed Black Company and other flotsam from the tides of conflict. Once again warriors of the tribes will fight to preserve their way of life, while the Legions strive to impose their new order upon chaotic neighbours.
