About this listen

A Companion to Wolves is the story of a young nobleman, Isolfr, who is chosen to become a wolfcarl - a warrior who is bonded to a fighting wolf. Isolfr is deeply drawn to the wolves, and, though, as his father's heir, he can refuse the call, he chooses to go.

The people of this wintry land depend on the wolfcarls to protect them from the threat of trolls and wyverns, though the supernatural creatures have not come in force for many years. Men are growing too confident. The wolfhealls are small, and the lords give them less respect than in former years. But the winter of Isolfr's bonding, the trolls come down from the north in far greater numbers than before, and the holding's complaisance gives way to terror in the dark.

Isolfr, now bonded to a queen wolf, Viradechtis, must learn where his honor lies, and discover the lengths to which he will to go when it, and love for his wolf, drive him.

Contains mature themes.

Waiting For This Title

Would you consider the audio edition of A Companion to Wolves to be better than the print version?

I would consider this a superior version of the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Companion to Wolves?

The opening scene, though a quiet one, sets the mood for the rest of the story, and the battle scenes were more enjoyable here than in the original format.

What about Chris Chambers’s performance did you like?

I love the timbre of his voice and he captured the different character voices as I envisioned them from the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I smiled a lot! Not an extreme reaction, but I enjoyed the book.

Any additional comments?

I’d been waiting for a long time for this to appear in audiobook for,at, and I was not disappointed. It was very well read, and beautifully captures the mod and characters from the paper book.

Great Story, but full of swears

I didn't make it too far into the book. What I did hear was a great story. For better or worse, thought, the authors decided to use the B word A Lot to refer to the female wolves. Makes it very difficult to find a place I can listen, or I have to use headphones all the time. The reader also seemed to slightly emphasize that word, so it always really stood out.

Beware-Rapey and Creepy

This books seems to be intended to criticize some of the companion animal tropes but it ends up going heavily into the human has to have sex when the animals do no matter what they actually want. It’s unnecessary and made my skin crawl to the point I didn’t end up finishing the book.
