About this listen

For fifteen years FitzChivalry Farseer has lived in self-imposed exile, assumed to be dead by almost all who once cared about him. But now, into his isolated life, visitors begin to arrive: Fitz's mentor from his assassin days; a hedge-witch who foresees the return of a long-lost love; and the Fool, the former White Prophet, who beckons Fitz to fulfill his destiny.

Then comes the summons he cannot ignore. Prince Dutiful, the young heir to the Farseer throne, has vanished. Fitz, possessed of magical skills both royal and profane, is the only one who can retrieve him in time for his betrothal ceremony, thus sparing the Six Duchies profound political embarrassment - or worse. But even Fitz does not suspect the web of treachery that awaits him - or how his loyalties will be tested to the breaking point.

Excellent continuation

Loved the Farseer series and really all the books that Hobb has created in this world. Thoroughly enjoyed the first installment of this new series Now onto the next Fool book!

Very enjoyable

It started slowly but that's not something that bothers me if it is well written. The narrator was excellent doing female voices quite well along with a variety of accents. I love his interpretation of the cats!

Good to be back

After exploring The Liveship Traders, it was so nice to get back to Fitz's story. If you enjoyed The Farseer trilogy then I feel you'll love where The Tawny Man trilogy is taking us. I do highly suggest reading The Liveship Traders if you haven't, while it isn't necessary as it is for The Farseer series, there are very fun easter eggs and even connections that it gives knowledge to for this series so far.
Robin Hobb hasn't yet failed me in an adventure and I'm still loving the world she built and the characters we meet. James narrated beautifully as well, I was captivated from the start. It's a new adventure, familiar, but still new full of a rollercoaster of emotions in the best way possible. The Fitz and The Fool are still a forever entertaining pair with their complications. This book was an absolute hook, I can't to start the next book.

A Pleasant Journey Back to the Six Dutchies

Hobb's style continues to shine through in this sequel to the Fareseer trilogy, but with a new and fresh formula. This felt like a much-needed expansion on the story, characters, and world that we said goodbye to at the end of Assassin's Quest, and it has left me eager to read the next one!

I have grown so close to these characters.

I am a much bigger fan of the narrator for the first series. It is not that Mr. Langton does a poor job of bringing the characters to life... it's just that my picture of these characters is so strongly linked to their previous voices that it was hard for me to reconcile their personalities with these voices. The story is just as wonderful as always though. I did however weary of the facade Fitz and The Fool were putting on throughout the book.

Enveloped in the period and story

Hobb has the ability to capture your attention and envelope you in the period. I found myself laughing aloud with the subtle humor of the human nature of Fitz and welled with tears over his love of his wolf. In contrast the typical self centered teen prince was familiar. Smiles crossed my face most often with The Fools character as I imagined his face surrounded by elaborate costumes of rich colors.
The narrator exceeded my expectations with inflection of voice that expertly changes with each character!
I did not think I could enjoy another tale as much as I did The Live Ship Trader series. The initial chapters started out so slow I almost did not continue but I relied on Hobbs previous standards
and figured she was laying the ground work for a most intricate tale. I can't wait for the next book!

Slow start but worth the wait

My only complaint with the Author is the slow start. I stuck with it because of my familiarity with the author. Once you shoved our main character out of his little cabin the roller coaster began and a well crafted story emerged. I loved not only the unusual characters but how they grew and changed. I'm stating the second book in the series and loving every moment of it.
