About this listen

How much, exactly, does it cost to entice a woman to live in a certifiably spook-ridden haunted house for a month? Or the rest of her life?

April Cassidy comes from a long line of women who were gifted with certain special skills. She has inherited the full measure of psychic abilities that allow her to see beyond the normal world, and she considers that talent a curse. Her uncanny guesses scare people away, and she is resigned to spending her life alone as a freak of nature.

But then she receives a call that changes everything. For the first time, those hated skills will be required for a very lucrative venture.

A lifetime of ignoring her abilities, however, has left her unprepared to deal with the ethereal residents of one of the most spirit intensive homes in the country, but the money on the table is too much for her to resist.

Still, no amount of training could have prepared her for a ghost like John. He is so solid and real that he seems mortal to her at first, though no man from her reality would dare to grab a strange woman and discipline her, as he does at their first meeting.

Dominant and unyielding, John soon makes it clear that he has no intention of departing for the other side and, furthermore, he will be the master of his house, whether April likes it or not.

And April, who has always considered herself a feminist, finds herself falling for him - despite the obstacles on both sides of the veil keeping them apart.

Could have been great

So the idea for this story is fantastic. But it fell short in several ways for me. And alot of stuff was left hanging in the ending that REALLY bothered me as this is the whole reason I continued to listen to the story to see what happened and it just ended in another bed scene. So you don't learn any of the dark secrets going on, or what happens to April and John just that they are still having sex. I listened to this at 1.25 speed as the normal speed was much to slow for normal conversation. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Marie Smiths voice its just for this story she talked to a tad to slow. And the changes in dialog and perspective in the writing were so confusing! One second we were hearing what April was thinking and feeling and then we were hearing what John though about her feeling that that it was hard to keep up. I HATE to leave bad reviews but this one just really needed some extra work. I look forward to reading more by this author as she has great potential. She just needs to work on the flow of everything and ending the story and the side stories before just stopping. Unless it is meant to be a trilogy or something. There was alot of sex, some was really really good sex. And alot of fun and interesting stuff going on and not much paranormal stuff other than the fact John was a ghost and the paranormal team coming every day to talk to April about what happened on camera the day before. But again the story left a sour taste in my mouth with how it abruptly ended. Great potential for the author. She had a way with words and making you want to finish the story to see what happened, but if you want all loose ends tied up without feeling stumped, don't listen to this. It propels you forward to learn more and see how things end but you are not given that.

A Spanking Good Time

Although I enjoyed this overall, I think that there was more that could be been explored in this story. There was the potential for a more complete book and I would have liked to find out more about the other spirits that were obviously residing in the house. Having cameras everywhere but the bathroom was a little creepy and voyeuristic. And just how does one get spanked by an entity? In the spirit (no pun intended) of the book, I decided to overlook some of those niggling concerns and just enjoy it for what it was - a paranormal BDSM romance. Allowing myself to just go with the flow, I found it to be an entertaining listen. The ending was a bit abrupt and kind of left me hanging. After checking with Amazon, I see that this story is continued in another book. The narrator did a pretty good job with the characters and story. Despite the aforementioned concerns, I would recommend A Haunting Experience.

BOO HOO!

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

A good idea but not a good execution. There were so many many missed opportunities to enrich the story. The home was filled with spirits, good and bad, even babies, so we are told, but none other than Jack were presented. Children do touch April's hair and a vase is broken... wow. Later I'm teased again when the investigators point out that a lot of activity happens in other parts of the house whenever Jack and April are, ah, otherwise engaged. The bathroom is the only private room, but why does Jack need a clock? Jack was born in 1850 and April thinks about how much true history she could learn from him, but again, never does. I don't know why Jack doesn't leave the house or if he even can. After the home owner confesses to April, there should have been way more explanations and hurt emotions, not another whopping fanny spanking, AGAIN. For those of you who enjoy the sex and not so much the story, it's okay... but even it falls short; not in quantity for it's full of it, but in variety.

The narrator did a fine job for April but Jack sounded like a wimpy geek-boy.

Hands in pockets. Sorry.

Disappointing... NOT A Haunting Experience

I was really looking forward to this book. The description did not prepare me for what the story was going to turn out to be. I was curious and looking forward to finding out how the main character was going to fair in this spooky environment. To my disappointment, there were hardly any hauntings and the main character is basically turned into a Paranormal Adult film Star! The story has many descriptive sex scenes and should be under Erotica instead of Paranormal Romance. They were recording her sex escapades with a Ghost for many to see in exchange for the haunted house and money! It was not an appealing deal to me. On top of all that, she gets spanked hard every time he dislikes her language or behavior. I can’t believe anyone in their right mind would put up with that kind of abuse.

Narration was good and brought the story to life.

The way the story leaves you hanging at the end was totally unexpected. I assume another book will continue the story and wrap it up. There was so much left unexplained and unexplored. There is a lot of potential so I hope the next book will be better.

Very Interesting Story for the first

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. It took me awhile to get through this book because it was easy to occasionally put it down. However, it was a good story. The narrator did a great job with the characters. Very pleasant voice.

Good premise but doesn't feel finished

I didn't look to see if there's more to the book like a book 2 but I will say that I was disappointed on how this book ended. It just seemed unfinished, fade to black or rather walk up the stairs. There were a lot of unanswered questions and threads left dangling. Its worth the listen if you don't mind things left unanswered. I wouldn't say it's a cliffy but more like the author just decided to end it on the stairs.
*update* there is a second book, so I guess book 1 is considered a cliffy but as of 1/6/21 there's not an audio version of the second book. So my advice is don't do the audio of book 1 unless you want to physically read book 2. Otherwise you're SOL.

The Ghost and April...

April is a psychic who has been given an incredible opportunity...spend 4 weeks in a haunted house, so that a team of paranormal researchers can monitor, and she will end up owning the multi-million dollar mansion plus expenses. Within the 1st few hours of her stay, April encounters a ghost who dislikes her use of foul language and promptly gives her a sound spanking! What ensues over the next few weeks is fascinating! April develops a relationship with the ghost, John, who was murdered in the house in the 1800s. There are some scary incidents with other ghosts but nothing major. The research team is very intrusive and April has to get used to them watching her every move/intimate interactions with John via cameras, as well . The owner of the house is a bit on the ruthless side and I couldn't decide if I was sorry for her trauma or a bit happy. There are many steamy scenes...who knew that ghost $ex could be so hot...lol. I wasn't sure what to expect with this story but really enjoyed it...the ending was a bit abrupt so hoping that there will be a follow up book.
