How much, exactly, does it cost to entice a woman to live in a certifiably spook-ridden haunted house for a month? Or the rest of her life?
April Cassidy comes from a long line of women who were gifted with certain special skills. She has inherited the full measure of psychic abilities that allow her to see beyond the normal world, and she considers that talent a curse. Her uncanny guesses scare people away, and she is resigned to spending her life alone as a freak of nature.
But then she receives a call that changes everything. For the first time, those hated skills will be required for a very lucrative venture.
A lifetime of ignoring her abilities, however, has left her unprepared to deal with the ethereal residents of one of the most spirit intensive homes in the country, but the money on the table is too much for her to resist.
Still, no amount of training could have prepared her for a ghost like John. He is so solid and real that he seems mortal to her at first, though no man from her reality would dare to grab a strange woman and discipline her, as he does at their first meeting.
Dominant and unyielding, John soon makes it clear that he has no intention of departing for the other side and, furthermore, he will be the master of his house, whether April likes it or not.
And April, who has always considered herself a feminist, finds herself falling for him - despite the obstacles on both sides of the veil keeping them apart.

A good idea but not a good execution. There were so many many missed opportunities to enrich the story. The home was filled with spirits, good and bad, even babies, so we are told, but none other than Jack were presented. Children do touch April's hair and a vase is broken... wow. Later I'm teased again when the investigators point out that a lot of activity happens in other parts of the house whenever Jack and April are, ah, otherwise engaged. The bathroom is the only private room, but why does Jack need a clock? Jack was born in 1850 and April thinks about how much true history she could learn from him, but again, never does. I don't know why Jack doesn't leave the house or if he even can. After the home owner confesses to April, there should have been way more explanations and hurt emotions, not another whopping fanny spanking, AGAIN. For those of you who enjoy the sex and not so much the story, it's okay... but even it falls short; not in quantity for it's full of it, but in variety.
The narrator did a fine job for April but Jack sounded like a wimpy geek-boy.
Hands in pockets. Sorry.

I was really looking forward to this book. The description did not prepare me for what the story was going to turn out to be. I was curious and looking forward to finding out how the main character was going to fair in this spooky environment. To my disappointment, there were hardly any hauntings and the main character is basically turned into a Paranormal Adult film Star! The story has many descriptive sex scenes and should be under Erotica instead of Paranormal Romance. They were recording her sex escapades with a Ghost for many to see in exchange for the haunted house and money! It was not an appealing deal to me. On top of all that, she gets spanked hard every time he dislikes her language or behavior. I can’t believe anyone in their right mind would put up with that kind of abuse.
Narration was good and brought the story to life.
The way the story leaves you hanging at the end was totally unexpected. I assume another book will continue the story and wrap it up. There was so much left unexplained and unexplored. There is a lot of potential so I hope the next book will be better.

*update* there is a second book, so I guess book 1 is considered a cliffy but as of 1/6/21 there's not an audio version of the second book. So my advice is don't do the audio of book 1 unless you want to physically read book 2. Otherwise you're SOL.
Good premise but doesn't feel finished
