About this listen

Mirror, mirror, who's the fairest of them all?

I still cringe when I hear that line. A fairy tale that had girls pretending they were the fairest, the most beautiful, and the most entitled. A fairy tale most couldn't grow out of turned my haunted childhood memories into a living nightmare. Girls who grew up believing that pile of garbage became the meanest of all mean girls. And those mean girls were right. It was a line meant for all the beautiful people in the world, and I knew the answer would never be me. The answer would always be the women with long legs, flat stomachs, and perfect chests - the type of women Kane Masters gravitated toward.

Well, that's definitely not Willow Tate. No. That will never be me, because I'm completely imperfect. I have no idea what Kane could possibly see in someone like me when he could have them.

Plus for narration

This book was totally worth listening to because of the perfect narration of Zachary Webber. Otherwise the book was just okey.

For how long it was a lot of things left out.

A very cute story about a woman who tries to find her own power and does so with help from the love of a man. Okay, fine.
What was strange to me was a lot of the missing parallels.
Like when Cain talks early about how his first GF looked a lot like Willow, and the film that he made you assume is like his circumstance (being attracted to someone who isn't what society thinks you should be attracted to). I thought that would actually come up as a parallel to his story but it never does. The film is described as a passion project but the details of it are never really hammered home. Instead we get this silly baby daddy plot which could have been taken out altogether.

Willow almost starves herself to be thinner and it's never brought up again. That concerned me. Did her eating habits change? Did Cain notice how she ate? There is never a scene where they have a meal together (snacks, sure) so....what happens with that? Cain was drawn to her when she was a size twenty as well as a size fourteen, so I wish that was talked about more.

Willow's step family was comically evil. It was so over the top, that I rolled my eyes a lot at them. I wish they had been as toxic but also a bit more convincing. Also, the baby plot was unnecessary. Also the evil brother to dump all the problems on is lazy. When Willow and Cain overcome the celebrity life should have been enough to keep the story going and seems like a lost opportunity in the story.

The story tries hard to convince you that its inner beauty and you can overcome your trauma, but Willow I feel mostly only overcomes when the story needs her to. Sometimes her personal revelations are so jarring and I wonder where she's getting all this inner strength and then I realize a plot point is about to happen, so yeah.

Also, Willow is so hot and cold. She's confident one second then she would completely shut down the next and I really can't stand characters like that. These two characters are in their 30s and them being together as long as they were without intercourse, but doing EVERYTHING else, was just laughable when you are told their reasons. I do understand Cain wanting to take his time with her, but come on, with all they are going, the delay felt super contrived.

We never really get to know Cain outside of his relationship to Willow or his problem. It's kind of shallow how he is treated in that respect.

Plus there are a LOT of scenes that were just filler. The post-sexting one comes to mind. Willow gets to set and does not remember what she texted. She checks everything on her phone BEFORE texts, which is stupid, reads the texts, gets embarrassed, goes to her friend who reads them and then they talk about her texting. It was like 15 minutes of unnecessary. Just have her remember and be embarrassed and there you go.

Its a cute read with a lot of filler that I think could have been more impactful with some changes.

Sad it’s over.

All I will say is, I’m extremely sad it’s over! I relate to Willow and crave a man like Cane. I wish there was more.

amazingly written

This story touched in so many levels. being confident in yourself is crucial in life. but the support provided to help her become her true self was amazing and not to mention it doesn't hurt to have an amazing sexy man to solidify it. love this story! wish there was more

Totally worth it

It's a deep story and it really is perfectly imperfect, however it's Zachary's narrator that makes it perfect. I tried to read it but only after dropping my kindle and putting on audible is what made my Sunday.

The meaning behind the book is very powerful but the narrators are the stars right along with the author.

Uplifting! Beautiful! Inspiring!

All words to describe this book. Not only do we get to see a HEA hells yeah. But we get to see a women become OKAY with her BODY!

I hate, hate, hate, when I writer tears down a plus size women. Or makes them have so much self esteem issues. I am a large women and have been since grade school. So yeah I know all about bully's and self esteem issues. But I also know my self worth and that I think is far more sexy then what my body looks like.

So I was really pleased with this whole story. I do wish she had lost the weight in a more healthier way but what can you do its fiction right. :) Her friends are the BOOM.com I swear I love that about Harper's works she always make them have kick ass friends.

I love me some Kane oooo weeee baby. I love how he looks past her body issues or no that's not right he doesn't look passed them he embraces them and shows Willow that she should embraces herself as well, because there is nothing sexier than a women who owns her own skin. Yes their are going to be times when she doesn't like what she see's in the mirror who doesn't but don't dwell on it.

I <3'd this book to pieces!

I have enjoyed the narration. I am not a huge fan for Shirl but she isn't terrible and her performance in this with Zachary perfection.

Just a little trouble with the Willow narrating

Great story and such an empowering message that I adored. I loved the characters but it was so hard following Willow's narrator. Kane's was fabulous but I was just not a fan of the dragged out words of the female and the abrupt way of reading the story. It needed to flow more naturally. Just my two bits!

Boring

I hated this book. Not even Zachary Webber’s narration could save it for me. I doubt I will read another book written by Harper Sloan.
