The instant New York Times best seller

“Looking for a suspense novel that will keep you up until way past midnight? Look no further than Lock Every Door, by Riley Sager.” (Stephen King)

The next heart-pounding thriller from New York Times best-selling author Riley Sager follows a young woman whose new job apartment sitting in one of New York’s oldest and most glamorous buildings may cost more than it pays.

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. Recently heartbroken and just plain broke, Jules is taken in by the splendor of her surroundings and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind.

As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who comfortingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Searching for the truth about Ingrid’s disappearance, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew's sordid past and into the secrets kept within its walls. What she discovers pits Jules against the clock as she races to unmask a killer, expose the building’s hidden past, and escape the Bartholomew before her temporary status becomes permanent.

Critic reviews

“Urban paranoia has a deliciously Gothic new address.” (Ruth Ware)

“The Bartholomew is an apartment building of terrifying secrets. You'll find startling twists and alarming surprises down every dark hallway. It's too late to lock the doors - the horror is already inside. My favorite thriller of the year!” (R. L. Stine, author of Goosebumps)

“The author, writing under a pen name, relates ominous events and spooky developments with skill, adding an element of social commentary and a surprise twist ending - elevating this exercise in terror above the ordinary shocker.” (Wall Street Journal)

Slow at 1st

This book is bonkers, a bit over the top, a bit ridiculous, but completely addicting. I blasted through it in two days. If that’s not worthy of five stars, I’m not sure what is. Riley Sager is definitely an auto-buy author for me now! Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

Hard to put down

The book was pretty good once it hit the climax and stopped seeming predictable. It was just a little repetitive in the first half, I heard "I'm getting really freaked out" more times than I can count. But it definitely had a pretty decent twist and the book waa wrapped up pretty well. Not my favorite from this Author, but still pretty good.

Slow build up

The overall story line was not bad. It definitely lends itself to be recreated on the silver screen. The performance was a bit lack luster... The voices all blended together. I wished the performer took more time to really help draw you into the story, or gave the character more dramatic flare... idk...

That said, I would such you physically read the book (if you can).

A pretty good blockbuster thriller

This audiobook was one of the best so far this year! The authors story was riveting from beginning to end! The story was real, chilling, mysterious, and relatable all at once. I fell in love with the main character who was just a girl and turned into something else entirely! The women who read this story was a perfect pick with her really getting into each individual characters made you feel like you were there watching it all happen! 5 stars! Highly recommend

COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN

I ended up really liking this book. I’m not often thrown on books, guessing what is going to happen, but this one was a fun ride!

Great Book

I enjoyed this book right up to the end, when the “haunted” stuff got explained. It seemed like a pretty average psychological thriller and then just got too sick and twisted. If you have squeamish stomach like me- skip this one!

Got pretty sick at the end

I have read all of Riley Sager’s books and they are all pretty good. If you’ve liked the others then you’ll like this one too. I wish it would have gone in a slightly different direction but still enjoyed the ride.

Another Enjoyable Sager Title

Many of them were painfully predictable. Overall, not a bad book, but not as thrilling as I’d hoped. Dylan Moore is a fantastic narrator.

Full of twists, but...
