No one can say when the end is near. It can come from a plague, warfare, or a natural disaster. For the people of Siril, the end of their world came from space. The massive solar flare that collided with their planet wasn't something they could prepare for, or prevent. Millions perished instantly, and those that survived looked to the stars in steel-eyed defiance.
Karincin's life has been dominated by familial expectations, duty, and celibacy. He attended all of the correct schools, won the worthy awards, and leads a cutting edge team at the Department of Space. His life is going exactly as planned, until he's assigned a mate.
Aevum is nothing like he expected. She's free-spirited, passionate, and doesn't adhere to Karincin's pre-arranged life. She challenges everything he's been taught to believe, and awakens suppressed desires he didn't know he had.
He was never prepared for such an irrational craving as lust.
After his planet is ravaged by natural disaster, Karincin is selected as one of 12 scouts to be sent into space to discover the looming peril to his people. It is a great honor, and one the Sirilian people desperately need him to perform. But it will make him choose between his life's work, and his own awakened heart.
What awaits him in the void of space? And if he goes, would he ever return to the woman he loves?

The narration was excellent. I would listen to anything Lessa Lamb narrates.
Interesting Twist

In this story, the author does a really good job creating a gentle, almost dreamy, definitely otherworldly atmosphere with the story and characters; I can actually visualize it as a movie as I’m reading/listening.
This is one of the few (only?) then-and-now stories I’ve read that I like. It’s clearer when going between the present day timeline story -space- to the previous timeline story -Siril- both are really good. Actually, this book is a cut above the first 3 Arathian books, as it has the fewest gaps in logic or story, and the fewest misused words.
What’s shocking is how long Karo has “actually” been in space. That’s where the logic of the story breaks down, so you have to ignore the gap, and just enjoy it as is.
Lamb does a decent job of narration. She seems to be a good pairing with Krizek for book editing and audiobook production.
Well done

The narrator does a fabulous job with the characters and voices of each character which makes it easy to distinguish between the characters. She does a great male voices and female. She also makes the story seem to come alive with her narration! I definitely recommend this book.
Fantastic story!

I have no prior knowledge of her previous series and after reading negative reviews suggesting that the other series is better or that you need to read that first, I was hesitant about starting with ADRIFT. Conclusion: You can definitely start with this book and you won’t get lost. No prior knowledge of the world the author has created is required. She explains it all very well.
The love story runs along 2 parallel timelines – the past when the hero Karincin, and heroine, Aevum, meet and fall in love; and the present when Karincin is in deep space on a scout mission. At first, I was confused by the changing scenes from past to present and had to check my device to ensure I hadn’t skipped chapters, because I worried when Karincin was on his own. It felt as though too much time was devoted to the scout mission when all I wanted was for the romance to continue. In the end, I realised those scout mission chapters were essential.
If you feel the romance is not advancing at a pace you like (as I did), my advice is to persevere. It is SO worth the wait for the mystery to unravel. It is a romantically rewarding experience. My heart thumped hard, and I was delighted by the originality of this well-plotted story.
My romance reading needs were met here because there was a heart-stopping, tastefully sexy, mature love. There was a complete story with a happy ever after for two intelligent and likeable main characters; excellent world building; and what felt like well researched science fiction that I enjoyed. But I’m in it for the romance, and it was excellent.
The narrator, Lessa Lamb, was new to me, and I loved her representations of all the characters.
If you can, read ADRIFT first, as book 2 UNEARTHED is filled with spoilers for ADRIFT and avoiding spoilers is advised.
What an excellent find. I highly recommend ADRIFT as it has brought author Nicole Krizek and narrator Lessa Lamb to my attention and I am excited by what they produced here.
