My name is Ace Bissett, and I’m a paranormal detective who doesn’t believe in magic.
Or at least, I didn’t before I met them.
The day I inherited my aunt’s old house, everything changed. One moment, I was convinced that magic was a hoax. The next, I’m surrounded by four winged, fanged, ridiculously hot guys who are definitely not human, and who insist that I'm the only one who can break the curse that binds them to the night.
I know I should run far, far away from this hot mess, but there's a connection between us I can't deny. I'm seeing things I can't explain, feeling things that don't make sense. The detective in me has never been able to resist a mystery, and this one is just begging me to dig in.
But all that will have to wait, because there’s a new threat stalking my city. One with a taste for blood and bone, unable to be killed or captured by normal human means.
It’s a good thing I’ve got four new roommates to help me hunt them down. But even if I didn’t, I’d figure out a way. Because I never give up. I never give in. And I always protect what’s mine.

I'm starting to lose my love for vampires and gain a newfound appreciation for gargoyles...
Hard bodies, strong hands, protective wings, ferocious chivalry... yum.
This book is shorter than my usual paranormal romance reading fanfare. Ace is tolerable as a heroine, but she needs to train, hone her skills, and stop getting into situations without thinking things through. Her "always gets her way" attitude is naïve. I had to cringe whenever she got tossed around like a rag doll. Despite all that, things look promising with the fire trick and she's only just starting.
As for the gargoyles, I think I love the twins the most: youthful, cheeky, and fun. Thomas is easily approachable, and Gilbert is sweet. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the amount of sex --have you not read reverse harem before? Still, I have to admit that I considered the scenes kinda tame and they lacked a certain *finesse.* I actually find the way that Thomas speaks to Ace sexier than the act itself. With his English accent, playful banter, and unabashed chuckles, I'm hooked.
The story could use more fleshing out though. Everything happens in just a week. Why the rush? I liked the interactions with the guys, them learning the perks of modern life, and us knowing more of their history. The mystery aspect was a bit weak. It felt like an afterthought, so that's why I rated it three stars. I really hope the rest of the series will get the same audiobook treatment as the first book, because I crave more! I could listen to the male narrator for hours...
Mmm Gold's velvety, sexy voice is worth it alone!
