About this listen

My name is Ace Bissett, and I’m a paranormal detective who doesn’t believe in magic.

Or at least, I didn’t before I met them.

The day I inherited my aunt’s old house, everything changed. One moment, I was convinced that magic was a hoax. The next, I’m surrounded by four winged, fanged, ridiculously hot guys who are definitely not human, and who insist that I'm the only one who can break the curse that binds them to the night.

I know I should run far, far away from this hot mess, but there's a connection between us I can't deny. I'm seeing things I can't explain, feeling things that don't make sense. The detective in me has never been able to resist a mystery, and this one is just begging me to dig in.

But all that will have to wait, because there’s a new threat stalking my city. One with a taste for blood and bone, unable to be killed or captured by normal human means.

It’s a good thing I’ve got four new roommates to help me hunt them down. But even if I didn’t, I’d figure out a way. Because I never give up. I never give in. And I always protect what’s mine.

So the story is unique! Sexy gargoyles coming to life and living to make Ace's life more enjoyable! I also really like that there is a male and female narrators. BUT... The female narrator sounds robotic during the steamy sexy love making scenes. The male voice is great! He sounds like he's into it and is enjoying it. But that female.... Is bad. She's so monotonous that boyfriend literally thought it was a computer doing it.
That being said, Im already 3/4 through the next in the series haha. So, I like it enough to keep buying and listening.

Good story! Good sex! Bad narrating

The very best part of this story is the narrators. Kate Marcin and Adam Gold are the best narrators I’ve listened to so far. He reads all male voices and she reads all female voices very very well. The main character is like that commercial where the group of kids run out of the cornfield in the dark and run for the barn with all the sharp hanging weapons instead of jump in the car that’s already running. Also she’s always saying ‘ freeze I’m a cop’ . Just a few things that are a little annoying. I will be buying the next in the series if the narrators are the same.

I couldn't stop listening to it!! There was such intensity that I loved every minute of it!

Great!!

I enjoyed the story, although didn't appreciate that the main character, who is supposed to be the "best" detective, didn't see the obvious coming. But, that's minor. The narration, however, was fantastic. It makes such a difference when you have male and female voices, and Adam Gold was great with the different accents. Good narration just makes a world of difference!

What a difference 2 narrators make!

Oh my gosh, what a treat to my ears...Adam Gold's voice!
I'm starting to lose my love for vampires and gain a newfound appreciation for gargoyles...
Hard bodies, strong hands, protective wings, ferocious chivalry... yum.

This book is shorter than my usual paranormal romance reading fanfare. Ace is tolerable as a heroine, but she needs to train, hone her skills, and stop getting into situations without thinking things through. Her "always gets her way" attitude is naïve. I had to cringe whenever she got tossed around like a rag doll. Despite all that, things look promising with the fire trick and she's only just starting.

As for the gargoyles, I think I love the twins the most: youthful, cheeky, and fun. Thomas is easily approachable, and Gilbert is sweet. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the amount of sex --have you not read reverse harem before? Still, I have to admit that I considered the scenes kinda tame and they lacked a certain *finesse.* I actually find the way that Thomas speaks to Ace sexier than the act itself. With his English accent, playful banter, and unabashed chuckles, I'm hooked.

The story could use more fleshing out though. Everything happens in just a week. Why the rush? I liked the interactions with the guys, them learning the perks of modern life, and us knowing more of their history. The mystery aspect was a bit weak. It felt like an afterthought, so that's why I rated it three stars. I really hope the rest of the series will get the same audiobook treatment as the first book, because I crave more! I could listen to the male narrator for hours...

Mmm Gold's velvety, sexy voice is worth it alone!

I enjoyed the mystery and part of the sexual aspects, but there was too much explicit sexual content than I would have preferred.

too much sexual content.

This is a good introduction to this series, and completely full of action. A witch that doesn't even know if the magical world and 4 hot men with a curse attached to them will capture your attention and keep it until the end.

Action packed
